WHARFEDALE

SPEAKER INSTRUCTION LEAFLET

Your new Wharfedale loudspeaker system has been carefully designed to giVe the best
performance for a speaker of its size.

By following these few simple instructions you will obtain the full benefits of your new
equipment

INSTALLATION

The loudspeaker is a full range system and is suitable for direct connection to amplifiers
with an output impedance of 4-8 ohms. By wiring through a matching transformer, you can
match the impedance of any amplifier.

CONNECTING LEADS

For connection to your amplifier (or tape recorder), for runs of up to IS, ordinary two
core lighting flex is suitable For longer runs. power cable (3/.029) should be used. Simply
connect each wire to the terminals at the back of the cabinet.

PHASING
One terminal is identified by the colour red. ln the case of screw down terminals a red
dot is placed alongside the terminal. For mono use it is of no consequence which way round

the leads are connected, but for stereo both speakers should be connected in the same way
relative to the terminals on the amplifier.

To check phasing
I) Stand the speakers side by side.
2) Feed a mono input to the amplifier.
3) Listen to the music and then reverse the connections to ONE speaker.

4) If the bass output decreases the speakers WERE correctly phased If it increases they
are now right.

i.e. The speakers produce maximum bass when correctly phased.

STEREO

Best results are obtained by placing the pair of speakers 6 to IZ apart.
If there appears to be a hole in the middle " of the sound, the speakers are either too
far apart or out of phase.

ROOM POSITION

The position of the speaker in the room is not critical. The design is such that, though
a corner site has advantages. excellent results can be obtained in other positions. Similarly the
cabinet may be placed either on its side or on end. When the cabinets are placed on the 'floor
the treble unit must be at the top of the cabinet. The position of the speaker terminals will
indicate the relative position of the treble unit. For models which are packed in pairs the
terminals should be at the top of the cabinet- on all other models the terminals should be
at the bottom.
