recorded lor adjustment ol the lelt channels Band 3.

Separation ot the right channels." includes a tone tor the

right channels, Each ol these tones lasts tor 30 seconds and

is used as the separation control Signal

Adjust the separation alter the 30kHz carrier Signal input

level has been adjusted

1 Turn the Iell-lront and right-Iront channel level controls
completely counterclockwise in order to hear only the
rear sounds

2 Play band 2 (Separation ol the lett channels") which has
the separation control signal lor the lelt channels, and
turn the toll separation control '5} until the tell-rear sound
becomes minimum

3. Similarly. play bandZCSeparalmn otthe right channels")
which has the separation control signal tor the right
channels. and turn the right separation control until the
right-rear sound becomes minimum.

4 The adjustment of the separation is then complete.
Turn the lettilront and rtght-lront channel level controls
which had been turned completely counterclockwxse, to
their original positions [i e . to posnion 7)

5 Then. according to the announcements trom the 4 mai-
vrdual speakers. and then train all 4 speakers (band 4,
"Sound volume balance). adjust the volume balance
at each channel

All preparations tor CD-4 records are now complete.

Be sure not to disturb the posrtion ot the carrier level

controls or the separation controls except when exchanging

the cartridge ot the record player.

To play CD4 records, Iollow the steps described in "Dis-

crete 4-channel playback" below,

0 Discrete 4-channel playback

l. Use the input selector (jsgand the tape monitor pushout-
tons island {e to choose the program source to be used.
When playing CD-d records. set the input selector to the
CD-A position and the tape monitor pushbuttons to the
SOURCE oosrtlon
When listening to a 4-channel program source which is
connected to the AUX terminalso.set the input selector
to the AUX position and the tape monitor pushbuttons to
the SOURCE posuion
When using a d-channel tape deck. set the tape monitor
pushbuttons to the TAPE t or to the TAPE 2 position.
whichever is applicable.

2 Set the mode selector Q: to the 4 CH DISCRETE position.

Cl Set the L-FHONT'jt. R-FRONT@, L :1 channel level controls to D05itlon 7.

4 Switch on the sound source and adjust the volume con-
trol 9

5. Use the channel level controls to adjust the volume
balance between each channel (By usrng the "Technics
by Panasonic" SH~toto 4~channel balaricer. the volume

balance between channels can be simply controlled by
a single lever.)

6. Make any turther adjustments according to the acoustic
properties at the room. the speaker characterlstics. and
your own taste.

0 Speaker placement
The usual placement is to put one speaker at each corner
at a square,

I Matrix 4-channel Reproduction

0 4-2-4 playback system

The 424: system converts A-channel signals into Zechaiinel
signals by an encoder matrix. These 2-channel signals are
then recorded on records or tape. or transmitted as FM
stereo broadcasts To hear "its sound as 4»channel sound.
the original 4-channel signals are then reproduced by a
decoder matrix. There are two types ol 4-2-4 systems the
regular matrix system and the SO system With this recewer.
you can enjoy either system

SO SYSTEM

1. Select the program source with the input selectortfgand/
or the tape monitor pushbutton 7's and/ores.

2 Set the mode selector lugto 4 CH MATRIX PHASE 0 . and

the AFD controls (WlDTH and DEPTH) to the MTX 1 (HM)
DOSition lor regular matrix program sources.
For 50 program sources. set the AFD controls to MTX 2
Although these are the usual settings lor these two 4241
systems. in practice it is best to switch the mode selector
back and lorth (PHASE 0 i iPHASE {JD ) and adjust the
APO controls while listening to the perlormance to see
which setting actually gives the best sound

3. Set the L~FRONTZ$. R-FRONTW. L»REAR Bi and R-REAR
lttl channel level controls to posttion 7.

4 Swttch on the sound source and adjust the volume con»
trolls!

5 Use the channel level controls to adjust the volume
balance between each channel (By usmg the "Technics
by Panasonic" SHvlO'lO A-channel balancer. the volume
balance between channels can be simply controlled by
a Single lever )

6 Make any lurlner adjustments according to the acoustics
properties or the room. the speaker characteristics and
your own taste
