We want to thank you lor selecting the EPAJOO
Variable Dynamic Damping Universal Tonearm.

The EPA-1w can be adlueted lo the optimum damping emount
corresponding to the compliance oi the cartridge used. This
toneerm has many important lectures to assure you 01 excellent
permanence. Among these are our original Dynamic Damping
System. the highly eeneitive aimhemweneion system with 20
rubies for high precision. and the lightweight titanic Inn with its
high-ctrenqth hudening treetment using e special nitrification
method. Thie tonearm is an excellent example ol the total con-
centntion el lechmloqy-e universal tonearm with nuperb high
perfoanence cheracteristice.

in order to obtain the finest pedonnence oi the many leaturee
of this toneerm. end to aaaure longer end men eatielying service.
please be sure to read these operation instructions cereMly

elnetellalion ot the balance weight
Place the balance weight onto the rear shaft oi die tonearm.
align the hole lor the screw. and tighten the screw completely
(F19- 12).

endiustment oi the damping selector
this tonearrn includes a unique magnetic damping selector
which can be used to assure that the tonearm is parieotty matched
to the compliance oi the cartridge to be used.
The damping seiedor is calibrated in five positions, (ks), and
the position which corresponds to the compliance and weight oi
the cartridge should be aligned with the index merit on the
balance weighLiReler to the chart oi Fig.13 and see fig. 1.)
The lollowlng are the standards oi applicable calibrations
depending upon the compliance ot the cartridge to be used.

For precisionmlso reier to ieature O.

Damping selector calibrations Cartridge compliance
(the its dynamic)

e~s more than 15 x10" crnldyne
2-4 10~15X10" cm/dyne
1~2 5~10110" cm/dyne

Fig. u

In the case of the 2056-]! type cartridge. because the compliance
is 12 x10" cm/oyne. and the weight is 6.5 g. the [3.5] setting

should. theniore. be used.

Note that the damping selector position is continuously variable.
and any position between the calibrations can lheraiore also be
selected.

Note:

it the damping selector is rotated completely in the direction oi
the [1] merit. the movable weight inside the balance weight will
become locked. and the tonearm can be used as an ordinary
high-sensitivity lonearm. without dynamic damping.

When the unit is moved. be sure to rotate the damping selector
completely to the [1] mark in order to lock and protect the in-
temal structure oi the balance weight.

Adjustment of parts

OAdluetrnent ot the "0" balance

Betore making the ediustment oi hortnntai balance, check the

following points:

(1) Check whether the dosing lever is it the down position or
not.

(2) Check whether the anti:skating coon-oi is set to the 0" position
or not.
Although the tonesrtn may move very siightiy to the left and
right when the anti-skating control is set to the "0 position.
this is because at the high sensitiviy ot the rotating part oi
the tonearm, and is no problem. because the lateral lorce is
very small.

(a) ii the cartridge to be used has a movable cover. remove it.

oAdlustment ct horizontal (zero) balance and ot stylus pressure

(1) Remove the arm clamp, and move the tonearrn away from
the arm rest so that it is treeiy suaoenoed (Fig. 15).

(2) While turning the weight ring in direction "A" or "B (as
indicated by the arrows). adiuat so that the tonearm is as
horizontal as possible (Fig. is).

Do not touch the damping selector while making this adiust-
ment.

(3) Alter finishing the adiustmant oi the horizontal balance. to-
turn the tonearm lo the arm rest. a'id secure it with the arm
clamp.

(4) As shown in the figure. hold the weight ring with a finger so
that it does not move. and turn only the stylus pressure ring
so that the 0" indication oi the ring is aligned with the
index mark on the weight (Fig. 17).

Note:

When the horizontal balance is aousted. be caraiul that the
stylus tip oi the cartridge does not touch the turntable met or
the turntable base.
