Considerable care has gone into the packaging
oi this equipmentt If after unpacking you dis-
cover signs of damage, notify your dealer at
once. Before putting your equipment into op
etation. make sure that all tubes are set firmly
in their sockets and that the circuit breaker
(the red push-button at the rear of the ampli-
fier chassis, on your left when viewing ampli-
fier (mm the rear) has been pressed in.

So that the Stromberg-Carlson 880 stereo pre-
amp/power amplifier may be the answer to
nearly all installation problems. it is available
as the ASK-880 as a combined preamp/power
amplifier, and as the ASEB + ASP~80 as sep-
arate preamp and power amplifier. Connect
the ASE-8 and the ASP) as indicated in the
diagram. When this has been done, the two
units will be very similar to the onechassis
version, and all information applicable to the
ASR~H80 is equally applicable to the ASE-8 +
ASP-w. It is important to remember that the
880 is not designed for separation wider than
IS" between preamp and power amplifier. The
length of connecting cables provided with the
A538 + ASP~80 will give optimum results.

Good ventilation is required [or long life and
trouble free operation. Be certain that air flow
around the amplifier is not obstructed by such
objects as cabinets or books.

For panel or cabinet mounting make a cut-out
measuring 13% inches by 4V.) inches. An at-
tractive cover for the ASK-830 and the ASE-8
and a black paint cage for the ASP-80 are
available as optional extras il you wish to set
the equipment in an open location. When used
in this manner. insert the feet packed with the
amplifier into the holes in the bottom cover of
the chassis and press them home.

The AC cord should be plugged into a wall
socket supplying between 105 and 125 volts.
()0 cycles. One non-switched AC outlet is pro-
vided on the amplifier for connecting a turn-
table. changer. or tape recorder, and one
switched AC outlet is provided [or connecting
a tuner. Another outlet provides 6.3 volts AC
for possible installation 0! a pilot lamp that
lights when the amplifier is switched on. Do
not use a lamp that draws more than 2 watts
lapproximately 0.3 amperes).

One illustration in this booklet suggests a
number of possible components you may wish
to connect to your ASE-88), either initially or
step by step. Connections are easy to make,
particularly it you use the shielded cabla with
skirted pin connectors provided with all Strom-
berg-Carlson components. Shielded cables are
also obtainable in various lengths at any high
fidelity dealer.

General Rule: Connect A OUTPUT of the
program source to A INPUT of the amplifier.
and B OLTPUT to B INPUT.
