Multi-use Integrated Arm with Carbon-fibre Tapered Tube

Operating Instructions

To ensure optimum performance from your new UA-9 STAX Arm, read this instruction manual carefully before installation.

UA9N/90N have the same specifications as UA.9/90 except
that their rest post is fixed to the pillar making the mounting
much easier.

1: Features

The main role of any good quality arm is to maintain the cartridge stylus firmly
in its present position and suppress any tendency for the stylus to jump or move
suddenly. At the same time, however, it must ensure that the cartridge stylus can
also freely trace the record groove with minimum resistance to the gradual lateral
movement towards the center of the record, and be free to move up and down

in order to cope with any record warping.

If the cartridge is not held securely enough, vibrations picked up from the record
groove by the stylus will fail to be completely and accurately converted into
electrical signals. Other unwanted signals may also be picked up, resulting in the
loss of high fidelity reproduction. Furthermore, if the stylus fails to freely trace
the record groove while being gradually shifted towards the center of the record
undue pressure will be applied on the stylus, resulting in the generation of track-

ing error and distortion. Accurate tracing of warped records is another difficulty
to be considered in arm design, although the recent use of cartridge stabilizers has
helped considerably. To ensure accurate performance in this case, the arm must
behave in such a way as to cancel the large amplitude arm vibration which occurs
in the vicinity of the low-end resonance frequency of the arm (around 10Hz).

In other words, the ideal arm should be capable of making the cartridge trace a
warped record just as if it was a perfectly flat record. It should also be capable of
protecting the cartridge from the effects of unwanted external vibrations.

in designing the UA-Q Integrated Arm, Stax engineers solved all of these problems,
and also selected the very best wiring material for use in the signal path.

The UA-Q is an arm that assures you of superb sound reproduction under a variety
of conditions, and many years of satisfaction and listening pleasure.

The very slight amount of play in the bearing as-

included to protect the extremely fine pivot from
undue shock. It has no adverse effects on the
performance of the arm.
