General:

Unlike conventional dynamic headphones
which are directly connected to a stereo
amplifier, the Stsx electrostatic ear speaker
SR-S is connected to the adaptor. either the
Stax SRD-o or SRO-7, which in turn is
connected to an amplifier. (See Fig.)

The principle employed in this electro-
static system what is known as push-pull"
type. superbly devoid of distortions. Approxi-
mately 300 volts is required to drive the
transducer. The adaptor steps up to this level
of 300 volts the output of the amplifier
speaker terminals.

The adaptor consists of a pair of signal
transformers and an electric source circuitry
which creates a polarizing voltage for the
condenser headphone.

SR-s can also be used in conjunction
with a specially designed main amplifier either
of transistor or tube type.

Connections:

[I] Connect adaptor to speaker terminals of
main amplifier whose output is low or larger
Turn off main amplifier power switch
and disconnect speaker cords from amplifier.
Connect adaptor input cords to amplifier
speaker terminals as shown in Fig.

Cord coloring: are: White Left(+) Blue Left
(-) Red Right(+) and Black Risht(-)

Some tube amplifier have terminals
marked, 1651/80/49/00 in which case 89
is (+) and on is (-).

Make sure all strands of cord are fully
inserted into terminals and no strands are in
contact with other metal parts of amplifier.

Connect speaker cords to adaptor speaker
terminals as shown in Fig.

Connect adaptor AC cord to wall outlet.
100-240V. 50Hz/60Hz or to amplifier AC
outlet. (SRD-e has no power switch. SRD-7
AC source can be turned off by placing
switch to Loud Speaker position.)

an Connect ear-speaker 6-pole plug to adaptor
output plug, and system is now operative.

(Q Keep main amplifier volume control at
minimum and switch it on, and then slowly
increase volume to normal level. i'ake same
caution in switching between ear and loud
speakers.

as Keep adaptor AC circuitry live at all times
or you may damage transducer film by ap-
plying input to the unit when polarizing
voltage is down or out. (When loud speaker
is in use. amplifier output merely passes
through adaptor and sound quality is not at
all affected.)

Handling:

[1] Do not place ear speaker on or heat
generating apparatuses such as amplifier and
heater. or in direct sunshine or damp place.

[2 Because ear speaker frequency character-
istics are flat, keep tone control in medium
range for better results.

[3] You are liable to apply excess input to
ear speaker because of its lack of distortions.
Avoid this for longer equipment life.

E] In putting on ear speaker, do not depress
ear cases. or you may temporarily deform
ultra-thin (a few micron) diaphragm.

[H You may keep ear speaker plugged to
adaptor or amplifier when not in use.

For cleaning ear pads, use gauaendampened
with alcohol. By inserting a few layers of
gauze between pads and ears. you can relieve
excess perspiration.
