For over 30 years Spendor has developed a
succession of distinctive and innovative
loudspeakers. Natural uncoloured sound,
engineering excellence and outstanding

For over two decades Spendor was licensed to manufacture the
legendary L53/5a BBC mini-monitor loudspeaker. It became an
international reference standard. In 1998 when Spendor learned 1
that manufacture of the L53/5a drive units was to cease, we
decided to develop our own 140mm (5inch) bass-midrange drive
unit using modern materials and technology. Combining this with
a small 20mm Vifa soft dome tweeter, new crossover engineering
and a more up-to-date look we created the Spendor 53/5. Many
discerning listeners consider it to be the most transparent and
truly musical mini-loudspeaker they have ever heard and the 53/5
has won many awards.

The new Spendor 53/55e is an advanced version of the 53/5. lt
maintains the fundamental objectives of the original L53/5a and
53/5 while raising the sound quality and technical performance to
a new level of refinement. To maintain the BBC sound' the so has
a thin walled heavily damped cabinet and our special 5pendor
140mm bass-midrange drive unit. The 53/55e incorporates a high
performance 19mm soft dome Spendor-Scanspeak tweeter and a
new crossover network. The crossover features the same
topology and engineering as our latest Spendor '5' series
loudspeakers.

The new 53/55e offers even better sound integration, more even
frequency response through the critical mid-band, improved tonal
balance and significantly greater power handling. Subtle
improvements to the off-axis energy output allow the 53/5se to
deliver its beautifully open and realistic sound in a wider variety
of listening environments. The 53/5 and 53/5se both present an
easy to drive Bohm load for compatibility with a wide range of
solid state and tube amplifiers.
