> Before you begin

Featu res

- This is a remote control unit with built-in speaker to enhance your
enjoyment of television sound. It is convenient to use if it is
difficult to hear the television sound when there is other
surrounding noise or human voices present.

- The television sound can be easily heard through the high-fidelity,
compact speaker.

Clearer, fuller sound can also be heard when listening to the
television sound.

- The volume control for the speaker enables you to listen to the
sound at the most appropriate volume.

- Because the speaker system uses infrared-ray communication, it
provides great portability, allowing you to carry it around the
room. The sound can be enjoyed anywhere within the range the
infrared rays can reach, such as on top of a table or next to a sofa.

- A microphone is included, which can pick up sound directly from
the television speakers.

Transmitter installation can be performed easily, without
troublesome cord connections. The transmitter also operates with
a television not equipped with an audio output terminal.

- The unit is also equipped with a three-hour timer OFF function.
Even if you forget to turn off the power of the speakers, the power
turns off automatically after three hours to prevent excessive
power consumption.

About Presetting the Commander

The Commander is preset at the factory to operate Sony brand TVs.
If youre using the Commander with a Sony brand TV, you wont
need to preset the Commander before you start using it.

To set up the Commander to use with other (no:-Sony)
manufacturers TV, or to use with an analog cable box, youll need to
follow the instructions in this manual to preset the Commander with
the correct code number for your components.

Notes

- The Commander can be set up to operate only one component per
button e unless their code numbers happen to be the same. For
example, you cannot set up the Commander to operate a Sony TV and a
Panasonic Tv simultaneously (because they use different code
numbers).

- You may not be able to operate even a Sony brand Tv with the factory
setting. 1n such a case, tollow the procedure in Setting the code.

at a volume of your own choice.

Notes

. This system utilizes infrared rays for communication, so noise (hissing)
from the speaker can increase as the Commander goes farther away
from the transmitter, even within the range illustrated above. The sound
will also be cut off and noise will be generated if the infrared rays are
blocked. These are characteristics of infrared-ray communication and do
not indicate an equipment malfunciton.

. Do not place your hand in front of the infrared receptor.

- Place the Commander so the infrared receptor of the Commander faces
the transmitter. If the Commander is used in a position within the
range illustrated above, the sound can be heard from the speaker of the
Commander.

- The sound you hear varies according to the position of the Commander
and the transmitter. Try finding a position that yields the best sound.

. Even if there are irregularities in the clarity of the infrared emitter of the
transmitter, this will not influence the range and other functions of the
infrared rays.

Never drop the Commander and transmitter or subject them to
strong shock. This may damage the equipment.

Installing the batteries

Slide open the battery compartment and insert four size AA (R6)
batteries (not supplied).

Be sure to line up the 9 and e on the batteries with the 9 and e on
the battery compartment.

Setting the code
Setting by entering the code number

1 See the tables in Component code numbers, and find the three-
digit code number for the desired component.
If more than one code number is listed, use the number thats
listed first to complete the steps below.
For example, if youre setting up a Philips TV, you would use the
code number 056.
If your component is not listed, see "Setting by searching for the
correct code."

2 Press the POW ER button while holding +
the SLEEP button pressed.

3 Press the button for the component that
you want to set up (TV or CABLE).

4 Enter the components code number.
For example, if youre entering the code

5 Press the ENT button.

6 Aim the Commander to your component and check if you can
operate it using the Commander.

If you press a wrong button in step 4
Press the POWER button while holding the SLEEP button pressed
and then return to step 3.

If you cannot operate your component

- First try repeating these setup procedures using another code listed
for your component (see the tables in Component code
numbers).

- If after trying all the codes listed for your component you still
cannot get the Commander to work properly, try the search
method described in "Setting by searching for the correct code.

TIP
You can write down the code number on the label inside the battery
compartment lid and this Operating Instructions manual.

Setting by searching for the correct code

If you have tried all the code numbers listed for your component and
you still cannot get the Commander to work (or if your component is
not listed in the Component code numbers tables), try these steps.

1 Power on the component you want to set up.
2 Press the POWER button while holding the SLEEP button pressed.

3 Press the button for the component on the Commander that you
want to set up (TV or CABLE).

4 Press and release the CHANNEL + button. Then press and release
the POW ER button.

5 Repeat step 4 until the correct code number is found.
Each time you press the CHANNEL + button and then the POW ER
button, a new code number will be transmitted.
Keep trying until your component operates by receiving the
transmitted signal from the Commander (e.g., the power turns off,
the CHANNEL + function works, etc). Be patient as you do this; it
may take 60 or 70 tries until the correct code number is located.

6 When the correct code is found, press the ENT button.

7 Check that the Commander is operating the other functions of
your component by pressing the corresponding buttons on the
Commander. If they seem to be working properly, youre done
setting up the Commander.

If the component does not operate properly, repeat steps 1 to 6 and
search for another code.

If you still cannot get the Commander to work properly, see
"Troubleshooting.

Setting up the transmitter

1 Connect the transmitter to a TV.

Notes

- When the transmitter is connected to a headphones jack, use the
volume control on this Commander to adjust the volume, while
keeping the volume of the TV at an appropriate level.

- Sound from the microphone will be shut off automatically if a
connection cord is connected to the television LINE OUT jack or
headphones jack of a TV.

- The sound sent from the transmitter is monaural. If the input
signal is stereo, it is converted to a monaural signal inside the
transmitter.

Using the supplied microphone

1 Remove the microphone from
the underside of the transmitter.

2 Tear off the coated paper from
the adhesive surface of the
microphone.

3 Attach the microphone to the television speaker.
Adjust the volume of the TV.

Notes

- Wipe off dirt, dust, or moisture on the attached surface of the
speaker with a dry cloth before attaching the microphone to it. The
adhesion of the adhesive label on the microphone recovers if
wiped with a moist cloth.

- Use the LINE OUTjack or the headphones jack of the television if
the speaker surface is made of cloth or other material that can be
easily stripped off.

- Attach the microphone in a position where the sound can be heard
best if the television speaker grill is large or long.

- When the microphone is attached to a stereo television, you can
use either speaker grill, left or right. It makes no difference in the
sound from the speaker of the Commander.

2 Connect the transmitter to a power source.

Operating a component

1 Turn on the transmitter. The infrared emitters light up.

3 Press the button of the desired component on the Commander (TV
or CABLE).

4 Point the Commander directly at the component.

5 Press the button for the function you want to use.

6 Adjust the volume of the speaker of the Commander.

Notes on using the Commander

Basically, use this Commander in the same way as the remote control

supplied with your TV or analog cable box.

- Using this Commander will not add additional functions to your
TV or analog cable box. The functions of the Commander are
limited to the functions of the equipment itself. For example, if
your TV does not have a SLEEP function, the SLEEP button on this
Commander will not function with your TV.

I Some functions of your TV or analog cable box may not work with
this Commander.

- If your analog cable box can control volume, be sure to set its
volume switch to a medium position. If the volume on the analog
cable box is turned down completely, you will not be able to adjust
your TVs volume with the Commander.

Notes on adjusting the volume

When connecting to the LINE OUTjack

I Use the VOL control on the Commander to adjust the speaker
volume.

- If noise increases when the Commander goes outside the range
where the infrared rays reach or when the infrared rays are
obstructed, the mute function operates automatically, and the
sound from the speaker cannot be heard. The mute function is
canceled automatically when the Commander moves closer to the
transmitter or there is no obstruction to the infrared rays.

When using the microphone or connecting to the headphone jack

If you cannot get the desired speaker volume even if you increase the

speaker volume to the maximum using the VOL control of the

Commander, turn up the volume on the television.

Connect an earphone (not supplied) to the EARPHONE jack on the
Commander.

You can store your earphone in the battery compartment on the
bottom of the Commander when not in use.

When the Commander is not in use

First turn off the SPEAKER POWER switch on the Commander and
then turn off the POWER switch of the transmitter. Noise may be
heard if the power of the transmitter is turned off first.

Note

The power of the speaker turns off automatically after three hours to
prevent exessive power consumption.

Press the SPEAKER POWER switch again if the power is turned off
while you are watching TV. (The remote control functions can be
used even if the power of the speaker is turned off.)

. There may be cases in which you may turn on/off the analog cable box
by pressing the CHANNEL + or CHANNEL - buttons on the Commander.

. 1t your analog cable box can control volume, be sure to set its volume
control to a medium position. It the volume on the analog cable box is
turned down completely, you will not be able to adjust your TV's
volume with the Commander.

Troubleshooting

Sound problems

No sound/M uffled sound

- Check that the SPEAKER POWER lamp of the Commander is on.
- Check that the transmitter is turned on.

- Check if the speaker volume control is set to 0 (minimum).

- Check that all connections are correct.

- Turn up the volume on the television.

Distortion
- Check if the volume on the television is turned up too high.
- Check if the SPEAKER POWER lamp is dim or off.

a Replace the batteries of the Commander.

Loud background static

- Check that the distance between the Commander and the
transmitter is within the signal connection range. Noise from the
speaker increases as the Commander goes farther away from the
transmitter. This is due to characteristics of the infrared-ray
communication and does not indicate a malfunction of the unit.

- Check that there is no obstruction between the Commander and
the transmitter.

- Make sure that the Commander and component are not exposed to
direct sunlight.

- Change the position or angle of the transmitter.

- Check if the SPEAKER POWER lamp is dim or off.
a Replace the batteries of the Commander.

- If there is another transmitter in operation, turn off the power of
the other transmitter or move it to a location where the infrared
rays do not interfere.

Problems when setting up or using the Commander

To set up the Commander, carefully go through the procedure
described in "Setting the code". If more than one code is listed for
your component and the first one fails, try the next one, and so forth.
If none of the codes work (or if your component is not listed), go to
the steps in "Setting by searching for the correct code.

You cannot set the node

- Make sure that the batteries are not worn out, and that they are
inserted correctly.

You cannot operate the TV or analog cable box with the Commander

in spite of successful setting

- Check that you are aiming the Commander directly at the
component, and that the Commander is within the remote control
operation distance.

- Check that there are no obstructions between the Commander and
the component.

- Make sure that the batteries are not worn out.

- Check that the TV or CABLE button is pressed to choose your
desired component.

- Check that the component has infrared remote capability. For
example, if your component did not come with a remote
commander, it probably is not capable of being controlled by a
remote commander.

- Check if your setting of the codes has been changed owing to
mishandling or some other cause.

- Check if your setting of the codes has been erased owing to leaving
the batteries (or AC power adaptor) removed for more than 20
minutes.

Noise comes out from the speaker when you press a button

- Check that the distance between the Commander and the
transmitter is within the signal connection range.

Should any problem persist, reset the Commander to the factory
setting by pressing POWER, INPUT and VOL - buttons

Preparacion de la fuente de
alimentacion del mando a distancia

Colocacién de las pilas

Deslice y abra el compartirniento de las pilas, e inserte cuatro pilas
de tamafio AA (R6) (no suministrado).

Cerciorese de alinear 9 y 9 de las pilas con 9 y 9 del
comparrimiento de las mismas.

Cuando reernplazar Ias pilas

En condiciones normales, las pilas duraran aproxirnadarnente 60
horas (utilizando pilas alcalinas LR6 Sony, con 5 mW de potencia de
salida del aliavoz). Si el mando a distancia no tunciona
adecuadamente, o si la lampara indicadora de alimentacion se
ilumina débilmente o se apaga, es posible que las pilas estén
agotadas. Remplace Ias pilas por otras nuevas.

Notas

- Raamplace todas las pllas por otras nuevas.

- No tarde mas da 20 minutos en raamplazar Ias pllas, porque de lo
contrario su aiuste cle numeros de codigo se borrara.

- La dur lon de las pllas puede Variar dapandlando da la frecuencia de
utilizacion.

Notas sabre Ias pilas

- No mezcle una pila nueva con otra vieja, ni dos de t-ipos diferentes.

- Si se fuga el electrolito de las pilas, limpie Ia parte contaminada del
compartimiento tie las pilas con un pano y reemplace las pilas
Viejas por otras nuevas. Para evitar la fuga del electrolito, extraiga
las pilas cuando no vaya a utilizar el mando a distancia durante
mucho tiempo.

Notas

- Si desconecta el adaptador de alimentacion de CA durante mas de

componente, el mando a distancia sigue sin trabajar
adecuadamente, consulre Busqueda del codigo correcro.

Busqueda del cédigo correcto

Si ha intentado todos lo numeros de codigo de la lista para su
componente y el mando a distancia sigue sin t-l'abajar (o si sus
componentes no estan indicados en las tablas de "Numeros de
codigo de componentes), pruebe estos puntos.

1 Conecte la alimentacion del componente que desee ajustar.
2 Presione la tecla POWER manteniendo pulsada la tecla SLEEP.

3 Presione la tecla del componente que desee programar. (TV 0
CABLE)

4 Presione y suelte la tecla CHANNEL +. Después presione y suelte
la tecla POWER.

5 Repita el paso 4 hasta encontrar el niimero de codigo correcto.
Cada \Yez que presione la tecla CHANNEL + y después la tecla
POWER, se transmitira un nuevo numero de codigo.

Continue intentandolo hasta que su componente funcione al
recibir la senal transmitida desde el mando a distancia (p. ej., se
desconecta la alimentacion, la funcion de CHANNEL+ trabaja,
etc.). Tenga paciencia al realizar esto, porque pueden ser
necesarios de 60 a 70 hasta encont-rar el numero de codigo
correcto.

6 Cuando no encuentre el codigo correcto, presione la tecla ENT.

7 Compruebe si el mando a distancia controla las otras tunciones de
su componente presionando las teclas correspondientes de dicho
mando a distancia. Si parece trabajar correctamente, habra
finalizado el preajuste del mando a distancia.

Si el componente no tunciona correctamente, repita los pasos 1 a 6 y
busque otro codigo.

Si el mando a distancia sigue sin trabajar adecuadamenie, consulte
"Solucion de problemas.

- Cuando haya conectado el transmisor a la toma de auriculares,
urilice el control de volumen de este mando a distancia para ajustar
el volumen, manteniendo el volumen del televisor al nivel
apropiado.

- El sonido del microtono se silenciara automaticamente si conecta
un cable conector a la linea LINE OUT la toma para auriculares del
televisor.

- El sonido emitido desde el transmisor es monoaural. Si la seflal de
entrada es estereo, se convertira en monoaural dentro del
transmisor.

- Limpie la suciedad, el polvo, o la humedad de la superficie del
altavoz con un pano Seco antes de fijarle el microfono. La adhesion

- Utilice la toma LINE OUT o la toma para auriculares del televisor
si la superficie del altavoz es de tela u otro material que pueda
desprenderse facilmente.

- Fije el microfono en una posicion en la que pueda oirse el sonido
bien si la rejilla del altavoz del televisor es grande o larga.

- Si fija el microfono a un televisor estereo, podra utilizar la rejilla
del altavoz izquierdo o derecho. No existira ninguna diterencia en
el sonido oido a traves del altavoz del mando a distancia.

Notas sobre la utilization del mando a distancia

Basicamente, utilice esta mando a distancia de la mlsma forma que el

mando a dlstancla sumlnlstrado con su talavlsor o adaptador para

cablevlslon analogico.

I La utilizacién de esta mando a distancia no alimentara Ias funciones de
sus componentes. Las tunclonas del mando a distancia estaran
Iimitadas a las de los proplos componentes. lor aiamplo, s1 su televisor
no posee funcion de silenciamiento, la tecla SLEEP de este mando a
distancia no trabaiara con su televisor.

- Algunas tunclonas dal componanta puedan no trabaiar con aste mando
a distancia.

- Si su adaptador para cablevlslon analogico pueda controlar al volumen,
cerciorese de ajustar su selector de volumen a una posicion intermedia.
Si redujese complatamante el volumen dal adaptador para cablevlslon
analogico, no podrla ajustar el volumen da su tclevisor con el mando a
distancia.

Notas sobre el ajuste del volumen

Cuando haya realizado la oonexién a la toma LINE OUT

- Utilice el control VOL del mando a distancia para ajustar el
volumen del altavoz.

- Si el ruido aumenta cuando el mando a distancia este fuera del area
de cobertura de los rayos infrarrojos, o cuando éstos estén
obstruidos, la tuncion de silenciamiento se activara
automaticamente, y no podra oir sonido a través del altavoz. La
funcion de silenciamiento Se cancelara automaticamente cuando
acerque el mando a distancia al transmisor o cuando los rayos
infrarrojos dejen de estar obstruidos.

Cuando utilize el microfono o la conexién a la toma para auriculares
Si no puede obtener el sonido deseado a través del altavoz incluso
aunque aumente al maximo el volumen del mismo utilizando el
control VOL del mando a distancia, aumente el volumen del
televisor.

Escucha a través de un auricular (no surninistrado)

Conecie un auricular (no surninistrado) a la toma EARPHON E del
mando a distancia.

Toma EARPHONE

Usted podra guardar su auricular en el compartimiento de las pilas
de la parte interior del mando a distancia cuando no vaya a
utilizarlo.

Cuando vaya a ut r el mando a distancia

En primer lugar ponga el interruptor SPEAKER POWER del mando
a distancia en desconectase y después el interruptor POWER del
transmisor. Si desconectase en primer lugar la alimentacion del
transmisor, podria oir ruido.

Nota

La alimentacion del transmisor se desconectara automaticarnente
después de tres horas par evitar el consumo excesivo de energia.

Si la alimentacion se desconecta mientras esté contemplando
television, vuelva a presionar el interruptor SPEAKER POWER. (LaS
tunciones de control remoto podran utilizarse aunque la
alimentacion del altavoz esié desconectada.)

- Compruebe si todas las conexiones son correctas.

- Aumente el volumen del televisor.

Disto rsién

- Compruebe si el volumen del televisor esta a un nivel demasiado
alto.

- Compruebe si la lampara SPEAKER POWER esta débilmente
iluminada o apagada.
4v Reernplace las pilas del mando a distancia.

Estaticos fuertes de fondo

- Cornpruebe si la distancia ent-re el mando a distancia y el
transmisor esta dentro del alcance de las Senales de rayos
inf-rarrojos. El ruido del altavoz aumentara a medida que aleje el
mando a distancia del transmisor. Esto se debe a las caracteristicas
de la comunicacion por rayos infrarrojos y no indica mal
funcionamiento de la unidad.

- Cerciorese de que no haya obstrucciones ent-re el mando a distancia
y el transmisor.

- Cerciorese de que el mando a distancia y el componente no estén
expuestos a la luz solar directa.

- Cambie la posicion o el angulo del transmisor.

- Compruebe si la lampara SPEAKER POWER esta débilmente
iluminada o apagada.
H Reemplace las pilas del mando a distancia.

- Si esta util ando otro mando a distancia, desconecte su
alimentacion o aléjelo de forma que no interfiera los rayos
infrarrojos.

Problemas en la programacién o la utilizacicm del
mando a distancia

Para programar el mando a distancia, realice cuidadosamente el
procedimiento descrito en "Programacion del codigo". Si en la lista
hay mas de un codigo para su componente, y el primero falla,
pruebe el siguiente, etc. Si no trabaja ninguno de los codigos (o si su
componente no esta en la lista), realice los pasos de Busqueda del
codigo correcto".

No es posible programar el codigo
- Cerciorese de que las pilas no estén agotadas, y de que estén
correctamente insertadas.

No es posible controlar el televisor 0 el adaptador para cahlevisién

analégico a pasar de que la programacion resulté satisfactoria

- Compruebe si esta apuntando directamente con el mando a
distancia hacia el componente, y si el mando a distancia esta dentro
del alcance de operacion de control remoto.

- Cerciorese de que no haya obstrucciones entre el mando a distancia
y el componente.

- Cerciorese de que las pilas no estén agotadas.

- Cornpruebe si ha presionado la tecla TV 0 CABLE para elegir el
componente deseado.

- Compruebe si el componente posee capacidad para controlarse con
rayos infrarrojos. Por ejemplo, si su componente no vino con
mando a distancia, seguramente no podra controlarse con un
mando a distancia.

- Compruebe si ha cambiado Ia programacion de los codigos debido
a una operacion erronea o a cualquier otra causa.

- Cornpruebe si los codigos programados se han borrado debido a
que extrajo las pilas (o desconecto el adaptador de alimentacion de
CA) durante mas de 20 minutos.

H lnserte pilas nuevas y repita el procedimiento cle programacion.

Al presionar una tecla sale ruido a través del altavoz

- Compruebe si la distancia entre el mando a distancia y el
transmisor esta dentro del alcance de Ias sefiales de rayos
infrarrojos.

Si el problema continua, reponga el mando a distancia a los ajustes
de fabrica presionando Simultaneamente Ias teclas POWER, INPUT,
y VOL -.
