Thse operating instructions are written
mainly for models ouEide ofjapan. In the
caseof the model for use injapan, thedisplay
indications may differ slightly, but operations
are identical.

Getting started

The player has a built-in lithium ion rechargeable battery,
Before using the player for the first time, slide the BUILT-IN BATTERY
switch on the side of the player to ON as shown below, Leave the switch

in the ON position thereafter.

Charge the rechargeable battery.

red when charging starts. /

"CHG:- -min" appears when charging starts.

When the player is placed on the battery-charging stand, the 3-color info-LED lights
up in red and charging starts. The remaining charging time appears in the display on

the remote control.

- Display on the remote control: CHG:7 7 min 7 CHG:65min (65 minutes to end

The "3-color info-LED" and display on the remote control turn off after about one hour.
At this point, the battery is about 80% charged. After two and half more hours, the

battery will be fully charged.

For models supplied with the AC plug adaptor
it the AC power adaptor does not tit the wall outlet, use the Ac plug adaptor.

Notes

- it may lake up to one minute tor the LED or display indication to go on, dcpcnding on the
battery condition (i.e., whether the built-in rcchargcablc battery is draincd or not, ctc.).

- Charge the battery at a temperature or 0°C (+32%) to +40°C (noon. The charging time
may vary, depending on the surrounding temperature.

Playback and other operations can be done on the playcr and the remote control while the

player is charging.

Make connections and unlock the controls.

Connect firmly.

A short beep sounds in the headphones/ earphones. The LED lights up.

(D Turn the volume control towards VOL + or - on the remote control to adjust
the volume. (Press towards VOL + or - on the player. )
The vol ume indicator appears in the display, allowing you to check the
volume level.

To stop play, prefi l.

A long beep sounds in the headphones/ earphones.

Playback starts from the point you last stopped playing. To start playback from the

beginning of the disc, pres and hold thejog lever (HI) for 2 seconds or more on the

remote control (Pres and hold towards DH > for 2 seconds or more on the player).

To Do this (Beeps in the headphones/earphones)
Pause Prss thejog lever (>Il) on the remote control (continuous short
beeps).

Prasthejog Ieve' (bll) again to rsume play.

Cue to the cu rrent track Slide the jog lever towards I44 on the remote control
or the previous track (three short beeps). (Pr$s towards I44 on the player.)

Cue to the next track SI ide thejog lever towards >>l on the remote control (two short
beeps). (Prss towards >>I on the playe'.)

Go backwards or Slide and hold thejog lever towards I44 or >>I on the remote
forward whileplaying control. (Press and hold towards I44 or >>l on the playe.)

Selecting the play mode

You can selectfrom the various play mod$
using the P M ODE/ C button on the remote
control.

You can usethe repeat function for normal
play, si ngletrack play, shuffle play, and
program play mode.

You can bookmark tracks on a disc and play

them only. The sequence of bookmarked
tracks cannot be changed.

To bookmark the tracks

1 While playing thetrack you want to
bookmark, pres and hold thejog lever
for 2 seconds or more.

The firsttrack for bookmark play is set.

2 Repeat step 1 to bookmark other tracks.
You can bookmark with up to 20 tracks.

To play the bookmarked tracks

1 During playback, prfi P MODE/ C

2 Pres thejog lever.
The bookmarked tracks start playing,
starting with the smallsttrack number.

To erase a bookmark

Whi le playing the track for which you want to
erase the bookmark, prss and hold thejog
lever for 2 seconds or more

Note
If you open the lid, all bookmarks are
canceled.

Listening to tracks in a desired
sequence (Program Play)

1 During playback, pras P MODE/ C
repeatedly until PGM " appears in the
display.

2 Slidethejog lei/er repmtedly to select a

track, and then pr-$ thejog later to
eater that track.

Using the group function

The group function is provided to allow
playback of discs with group sati rigs. The
group function is convenient for playback of
MDs on which several albums or CD singls
have been recorded in M DLP (LP2/ LP4)
mode.

What is a disc with group settings?
The player can play back tracks i n units of
groups; that is tracks that hate been recorded
on a disc as part of separate groups, as shown
below.

Playing a track in group play

In group play, all groups areplayed in order,
starting with group 1, followed by the
unassigned tracks("Group--"). Playback
stops after all the tracks have been pl eyed.

On the remote control

Selecting the play mode for
group play (Group Play Mode)
The shuffle play and program play function
can beused during group play mode.

1 Press P MODE/ c: repeatedly.
After normal playback, thefollowing
play modes are displayed:

El SHUF Shuffleplay starts with

Playing groups in a desired

to play back groups in a dsired sequence.
You can program up to 10 groups. The
sequence of tracks withi n the groups cannot
be changed.

Registering groups using an
MD recorder

An MD recorder with the group function
Refer to the operating instructions of the M D
recorder.

An MD recorder that does not support the
group function

The procedure below allows you to assign
tracks to a group using the disc nameediting
function.

You can register the same group name more
than twice on thesame M D.

You can specify a group Without entering a
group name(©) for it.

Notes

- Up to 99 groups can be registered on a single
M D. The actual number, however, will be las
than 99 if you have entered more characters
than are allowed per disc.

- Depending on the specifications of your M D
recorder, the group function may not Work
properly.

Adjusting the sound
(Virtual-Surround 0 6-Band
Equalizer)

You can vary the virtual sound to create
different acousti cs, or modify the sound to
suit your taste and store itfor later use.
Thefollowing two effects can be selected.
V-SUR (Virtual-Surround VPT Acoustic
Engine)

Provids 4 kinds of virtual-surround
conditions.

You can customize the sound settings in

1 Do steps lto 3 above, and then slide the
jog lever until "CUSTOM 1" or
CUSTOM 2" appears.

Suppressing the skips of
the sound (G-PROTECHON)

The G»PROTECTION function was developed
to provide a higher level of shock rsistance
than that of etisting players in order to allow
the player to be used whilejogging.

Note

The playback sound may skip if:

- the player receivs stronge continuous shock.
- a dirty or scratched M iniDisc is played.
