Optimum Load: 47,000 Ohms resistance in parallel with 200 to 300 picotarads capacitance per
channel. Load resistance can be up to 70.000 ohms with almost no audible change in frequency
response. Total capacitance includes both tone arm wiring and amplifier input circuit.

Net Weight: 6.6 grams.

THIS CARTRIDGE INCLUDES THESE SHURE EXCLUSIVE FEATURES

MICROWALIJBO"I BERYLLIUM STYLUS
SHANK

Shure has developed a unique process for for-
ming an ultra.thin 0.0005-II'ICI'I wall. beryllium
tube, resulting in the lowest effective mass of
any stylus shank and highest ratio of stiffness
to ellective mass ever. This ratio is an index of
the ultimate contribution to performance of
the stylus shank; the higher the ratio. the bet.
ter the performance.

A material can be fabricated with different
geometries to yield lesser or greater perfor-
mance benefits. The unique Shure stylus con-
struction is called MICROWALUBe. While
materials may have high stiffness andlor low
effective mass, until Shure developed the
MlCFlOWALUBe process. it was not possible
to take full advantage of the properties of
beryllium that previde superlative high-
trequency trackability.

HYPERELUPTICAL NUDE DIAMOND TIP
Its optimized contact area is longer and
narrower than the traditional biradiai (ellip-
tical) tip-gr00ve contact area. This op-
timization results in dramatic reduction of
both harmonic distortion and intermodula~
tion distortion.

DYNAMIC STABILIZER

Viscous-damping functions like a shock ab.
sorber to resist sudden changes in motion.
enabling the tone. arm to follow the ir.
regularities of a warped record surface.
Record warps can cause Sudden and rapid
changes in arm~to~record distance that pro-
duce drastic increases and decreases in track-
ing force and tracking angle. The reSuits can
be signal wow, groove skipping, cartridge bot-
toming. or even amplifier or speaker Overload.
The Dynamic Stabilizer remedies warp effects
by maintaining a constant distance from the
arm to the record surface. The cartridge
achieves Its full potential trackability despite
warped records.

Cenductive fibers neutralize static charges on
the record surface and conduct them to
gr0und. The fibers also sweep the recOrd
groove clean of dust and dirt in front of the
stylus tip. And the entire Stabilizer absorbs im-
pact to prevent reCOrd or stylus damage if the
arm is accidentally dropped on a record.

SIDE-GUARD STYLUS PROTECTION SYSTEM
The SIDE~GUARD responds to accidental side
thrusts on the stylus by withdrawing the entire
shank and tip safely Into the stylus housing
before damage can occur.

TRACKING FORCE
Wheelers stylus tip tracking iorce of 1.25 grams optimum. When the viscous-

damped Dynamic Stabilizer is In the operating" position, It exerts a force on the record of 0.5 grams.

The 0.5-gram Stabilizer force must also be accommodated in the total tone arm tracking force set-
ting. Therefore. use the tollowing settings:
To obtain this torce at the stylus Set the arm tracking torce adjustment to

Optimum 1.25 grams 1.75 grams
When using an external gauge such as the Shure SFG.2 Stylus Force Gauge for setting tracking
force, lock the Dynamic Stabilizer in the "up" position. and set the tracking force as shown in the se-
cond column. When the Stabilizer rides on the record with the cartridge in use. the extra 0.5 grams
will be oilset by the Stabilizer and WILL NOT APPEAR AT THE STYLUS TIP. The tip torce will be that

shown in the first column.
If for any reason the cartridge is used with the Stabilizer in the up" position, the tracking force
should be set as recommended for the tip, i.e.. 1.25 grams.

SKATING COMPENSATION

Set the skating compensation mechanism according to the tone arm manufacturers instructions.
Use a skating compensation corresponding to the total tone arm tracking force setting (column 2 in
chart above.)
