I QS Synthesizer Encoding Function

1. Description

This function encodes the conventionai stereo signais by biending
them in reverse-phase, and provides output signais that are aimost
equivaient to QS-Encoded 4-Channe1 Signais.

In 4-channei piayback, the signais so encoded are reproduced
over a 270-degree spread, centered in front of the iistener and curving
:through l35-degree arcs on eather side to reach behined him. The L and
R stereo signais, and the many phantom signais between them, are
transformed into four specificaiiy-iocated sound images(LF, RF, LB and
RB) and many phantom images scattered around them(see Fig. 1) to create
,an authentic "SURROUND" effect.

Any ambience content in the stereo program source is reproduced
from the rear channeis.

Like the QS-Encoded Signais, the signais encoded by this function
are compatibie with stereo and mono piayback.

2. Required Connections

2-1: Connect the L-channe1 stereo signai to the LB input of the QSE-SB,
and the R-channe1 stereo signai to the RB input of the QSE-SB, so that
they are mutuaiiy in reverse phase(see Fig. 2).
2-2: Set the ENCODEswitch on the rear panei of the QSE-SB t0"SYNTNESIZER

2-3: The encoded output signais wi11 then be deiivered at the LT and RT
output terminais of the QSE-SB.
