Additional Laser Caution

1. Inside detection switch ($201 on the SMEB assy) and loading
status detection swnch (8301 on the LOSB assy) are detected
by the microprocessor (ICSOt in the DVDM assy).

' To permit the Iaser diode to osciIIate, it is required to set the
Inside detection SWitch for the inside position (8201 : ON) and to
set the loadingrstatus detection switch for the clamp position (the
center terminaI of 8301 is shorted to +5V). The 650 rim laser
diode for DVD oscillation wiII continue if pin 19 of |C101 is shorted
to +5V (fault condition) in the DVDM assy.

The 780 rim laser diode for CD osciilates if pin 20 of ICtOI is
shorted to +5V in the DVDM assy.

In the test mode * , the laser diode osciilates when microprocesr
sor detects a PLAY signaI. or when the PLAY key is pressed
(8113 ON in the FLKB assy), with the above requirements satisV
Iied.

2. When the cover is open, cIose viewing through the objective lens
With the naked eye wiII cause exposure to the laser beam.

* Refer to the service guide RRV2004.
