The Mullard .IAH'ZBI employs an
identical chassis, but it. is housed in a
wooden cabinet, whereas the, Philips
model has a plastic cabinet.

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION

Aerial input via coupling coils L1
(S.W.), L2 (M.W.), and L3 (L.VV.) to
singlcrtuned circuits L4, 6112 (S.\V.), L5,
(M2 @1qu and L6, 642 (L.W.) which
precede first valve (V1l Mulllrd metal-
lised EFSS), :1 Variable mu RE. peutode
operating as signal frequency amplifier.
A plug ronncctcd to the plate aerial per-
mits temporary operation without an ex-
ternal aerial,

Osrillator anode coils L15 (S.W.), L16
(l1LW.) and L11 (L.W',) are tuned by (:52.
Parallel trimming by (:49 (S.\V.), C21,

0511 (MARK) and C22 051 (L,\Vi); series
tracking by cw (SW), can, 641 (M.W.)
and can (L.W.). Reaction coupling from
control grid circuit by coils L12 (S.W.),
L13 (M.W.J and L1! (L.W.).

Third valve (V3, Mallard metallised
EFSB) is a second R.F. pentode, operating
this time as intermediate frequency am-
plifier, at fixed grid bias, with tunedA
primary, tuncdrsccondary iron cored trans-
iormcr couplings 014, L18, L19, C15 and
025, L20, L21, I326.

Diode second detector is part of double
diode pcntode output valve (V4, Mullard
EBL31). Audio frequency component in
rectified output is developed across the
manual volume control R26, which also
operates as load resistor, and passed via
AF. coupling capacitor 634 and resistors
R23, R22 to control grid of pentode sec-
tion LF. filtering by C28 in diode circuit
and R23, R24 and the valve capacitance
in V4 control grid circuit. High-note
compensation by 635, and fixed tone cor-
rection by (:31 across the output trans-
former T1 primary winding.

DC, potential developed in the diode
circuit appears also across resistors R20,
R21, which form a potential divider across
