Make sure to recharge the batteries before using them.
The unit cannot be used to charge rechargeable batter-
ies other than those specifically designed for it.

Recharging procedure

1 Insert the special rechargeable bat-
teries Into the unit.

2 Connect the AC adaptor.

Recharging starts and a battery indicator appears on
the display as shovm below.

When the rechargeable batteries are fully recharged.
the battery indicator disappears. (It takes approximately
3 hours to fully recharge the supplied rechargeable bat-
teries.)

3 When recharging ls complete, un-
plug the AC adaptor from the power
outlet and the DC IN lack.

ORechargeable batteries have a service life of approxi-
mately 300 chargevdischarge cycles. If the operating
time on one lull charge becomes noticeably shorter
than it used to be. the battery has reached the end of
its service life and should be replaced.

IRecharging may only be performed when the unit is
powered off. (It is not possible to recharge the batter-
ies while playing a CD.)

lThe AC adaptor and rechargeable batteries may be-
come warm while recharging is in progress. This is not
a malfunction.

Using the car adaptor (not Included)

Be sure to obtain the car adaptor (SH-CDCS), available
as an optional accessory.

CAUTION:

Use only car adaptor. Model: SH-CDCS manufac-
tured by Matsushita Electric Industrial 00.. Ltd.

The car adaptor can be used to recharge the units bat-
teries while in the car.

Using dry-cell batteries
(not included)

After disconnecting the AC adaptor, insert two AA
(LRS) alkaline batteries.

The procedure for Inserting and removing
dry-cell batteries ls Identical to that for
rechargeable batteries.

Checking the battery condition

When the unit is off. pressing BATI' CHECK causes the
battery indicator to appear on the main unit's display for
about a few seconds. (This works even if the unit is on
hold.) The indicator is always on when the unit is oper-
ating.

The battery case allows you to extend the maximum
playing time of the unit by loading an additional two
AA" (LRS) alkaline batteries.

OWhen using the battery case, always insert batteries in
the unit body as well. (The unit cannot be operated on
the batteries in the external battery case alone.)

oThough you can use rechargeable batteries in the bat-
tery case, it does not recharge them. (Use dry cell bat-
teries if possible.)

ewhen using rechargeable batteries in the unit body.
and dry-cell bananas in the battery case. be sure to
use fully charged rechargeable batteries and new dry-
cell batteries.

OWhen using four dry-cell batteries. do not mix new and
old batteries.

1 Open the cover of the battery case

and insert the batteries.
Insert the and marked (-) first.

2 Mount the battery case on the unit
body.

Insert the protrusions
on the battery case

into the four
indentations in the

unit body.

When the battery Indicator flashes

Power is cut off a short while later. Recharge the
rechargeable batteries or replace the dry cell batteries
with new ones.

0When the unit is used with 8 AC adaptor, the battery
indicator is not displayed.

nThe battery may temporarily show a lower level or oth-
erwise not operate correctly when searching and skip-
ping, and also if the unit is used in an extremely cold
environment.

0The length of time the unit continues to operate after
the battery indicator starts flashing depends on the
type of batteries used.

OThe battery indicator may not be displayed if rechar-
geable batteries other than those designated by
Panasonic are used.

This function causes the unit to ignore short, accidental
button presses. (The disc lid can still be opened and
closed.)

The HOLD function prevents the follow-

ing:

OPowering on the unit accidentally (which can cause
the batteries to go dead).

IPlay being cut off unexpectedly in the middle of a se«
Iection.

The unit and wired remote control have HOLD switches.
each oi which works independently.

Reverse the above procedure to remove the ex-
ternal battery case.

For your reference:

The maximum playing time will differ depending on the
type of batteries (rechargeable/dry-cell) loaded in the
unit body.

When the unit is powered off

The "bold" indication appears only when D II is
pressed.
