1 Service Note
1.1. Symptom
No operation of unit upon power on. FL display shows spurious characters or F61. Sound of the deck motor (deck mechanism)
can be heard.
1.2. Cause
D2900 breakdown over time becaus e power dissipa tion is over the specification during standby condition. The diode shorts when
it breakdown which causes diode becomes very hot, causing P.C.B discolo ration and eventually becoming shorted openin g
FP583 3, when open cuts off power to the 15V & +/-9V regulators, so set displays F61 and cannot power on. This may leads to the
failure of deck mechanism due to damage of components in the tape drive & head bias circuit (deck circuit).
2 Troubleshooting Procedures
Step 1: Check fuse protector FP583 3 on Power P.C.B. for open circuit. If it is open circuit replace part & proceed to next step.

Step 2: Check resistor R2952 & R2969 and replaced.

Step 3: Check diode D2900 if it is leaky. If it is leaky, replace part.

Step 4: Check transistor Q1004 & Q1005 on Deck P.C.B, replace if applica ble.

Step 5: Check transistor Q2703 & Q2704 on Deck P.C.B for short circuit. Deck Motor constantly bn indicates shorted for Q2703
& Q2704.
