I Self-Diagnostic Display Function

I Self-diagnostic display
This unit is equipped with a self-diagnostic display function which, it a problem occurs, will display an error code corresponding to the
problem.
Use this function when performing maintenance on the unit.

I How to enter the Self-Diagnostic Function

Display

Turn the unit on with no cassette in
the deck. (SELECTOR : TAPE)

Press and hold the I TUNING MODE"
button for at least 2 seconds.

While pressing the "I TUNING

MODE button, press "»/»|
mom MEMORY/SET" button for at least

2 seconds.

"T" will appear on the FL display.
T (unit is in the Self-Diagnostic Function.)

Display

I Cassette Mechanism Test (For error code H01, H02, H03, F01, F02)
1. Press "TAPE, DECK 1/2" to select Deck 2.
Load a cassette tape with the erasure prevention tab, remove from left side only and close the cassette holder.
Press "»/»I MEMORY" (Tape will be stop after 2 seconds).
Load a cassette tape with the erasure prevention tab, remove from right side only and close the cassette holder.
Press I«/« FM MODE/HP" (Tape will be stop after 2 seconds).
Load a prerecorded tape with both side record tabs intact and close the cassette holder.
Press "> TUNEfTIME ADJA " (After TPS function, tape will stop automatically).
Press EC/STOP" (Tape will not move).
Press "I TUNING MODE" to indicate Error code.
- If several problem exist. error code will change each time when "I TUNING MODE" is pressed.
(eg. H01 H03 F01 etc.)
10. Press "TAPE, DECK 1/2" to select Deck 1.
11. Repeat step 2 to 9 to test Deck 1. (Tape Deck 1 will not check H02 because at no recording function)

I CD Mechanism Test (F15, F16, F25 ~ F28, F75)
1. Press "CD".
2. Press "NEXT OPEN".
3. Press "I TUNING MODE" to indicate Error Code.
r If several problem exist, error code will change each time when "I TUNING MODE" is pressed.
(eg. F15 F16 F25 etc.)

I To clear all Error code
1. Press I TUNING MODE" button for 5 seconds.

2. FL indicator shows "CLEAR" for 1 second and change to "T.

I How to get out from Self-Diagnostic function
1. Press "POWER" button OFF.

I Power Amplifier Failure (F61)

I. When power amplifier fail, F61 will indicate automatically.

I Description of Error Code

(1) Error detection for Cassette Mechanism block

No. Error Error Problem condition

1 MODE SW H01 Faulty operation of cassette mechanism.

detection error Faulty contact or short-circuit of mechanism mode switch (3951, 8971).
2 REC INH SW H02 Recording not possible.

detection error Faulty contact or short-circuit of REC INH switch ($974. 5975).
3 HALF SW H03 Playback can not perform.

detection error Faulty contact or shortvcircuii of HALF switch (8952, 5972).
4 Reel Pulse F01 The tape advances slightly and then stops.

detection error Faulty reel pulse, faulty hole detect IC (l0951, lC971).
5 TPS abnormal F02 Cassette deck will not perform TPS function.

Faulty playback EQ/recording amplifier IC (lC101).

(2) Error detection for CD/Changer block

1 REST SW detection F15 CD does not lunction.
error This error occurs when the Optical Pick Up REST SW (S701) is not
detected within the specified time (about 8 seconds)
2 Transmission error F26 CD does not function.
between CD servo This error occurs when the POWER is ON tor the CD block and an
LSI and micon error is detected after the transmission has started.
3 CD power error F75 CD does not function.

Check if CDRST is H for SELECTOR at CD. If it is not H after 1
second. it shall be memorised as an error. (IC702)

(3) Power Supply related error detection

During normal operation, if DC DET become L, PCNT shall become
