. Ventilation - Slots and openings in the cabinet are provided for

ventilation and to ensure reliable operation of the appliance and
to protect it from overheating, and these openings must not be
blocked or covered. The openings should never be blocked by
placing the appliance on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar
surface. The appliance should not be placed in a built-in
installation such as a bookcase or rack unless proper ventilation
is provided. There should be free space of at least 20 cm (8 in.)
and an opening behind the appliance.

. Power Sources -The appliance should be operated only from

the type of power source indicated on the marking label. It you
are not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consult
your appliance dealer or local power company.

. Grounding or Polarization -The appliance may be equipped

with a polarized alternating current line plug (a plug having one
blade wider than the other). This plug will fit into the power outlet
only one way. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert
the plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug
should still fail to fit, contact your electrician to replace your
obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the
polarized plug.

Power-Cord Protection - Power-supply cords (mains leads)
should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or
pinched by items placed upon or against them, paying particular
attention to cords (leads) at plugs, convenience receptacles, and
the point where they exit from the appliance.

. Outdoor Antenna (Aerial) Grounding - If an outside antenna (aerial)

or cable system is connected to the appliance, be sure the antenna
(aerial) or cable system is grounded so as to provide some protection
against voltage surges and built-up static charges. Article 810 of the
National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, provides information with
regard to proper grounding of the mast and supporting structure,
grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna- (aerial-) discharge unit,
size of grounding conductors, location of antenna- (aerial-) discharge
unit, connection to grounding electrodes, and requirements for the
grounding electrode. See FIGURE 1.

. Lightning - For added protection for the appliance during a

lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long
periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet (the mains) and

disconnect the antenna (aerial) or cable system. This will prevent
damage to the appliance due to lightning and power-line surges.

Power Lines - An outside antenna (aerial) system should not be
located in the vicinity of overhead power lines or other electric light or
power circuits, or where it can fall into such power lines or circuits.
When installing an outside antenna (aerial) system, extreme care
should be taken to keep from touching such power lines or circuits as
contact with them might be fatal.

. Overloading - Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords

(leads), or integral convenience receptacles as this can result in a
risk of fire or electric shock.

. Object and Liquid Entry - Never push objects of any kind into the

appliance through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage
points or short-out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock.
Never spill liquid of any kind on the appliance.

. Servicing - Do not attempt to service the appliance yourself as

opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage
or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
Damage Requiring Service - Unplug the appliance form the wall

outlet (the mains) and refer servicing to qualified sen/ice personnel
under the following conditions:

A. When the power-supply cord (mains lead) or plug is damaged,

B. If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen into the
appliance.

C. If the appliance has been exposed to rain or water,

D. If the appliance does not operate normally by following the
operating instructions. Adjust only those controls that are
covered by the operating instructions as an improper
adjustment of other controls may result in damage and will often
require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the
appliance to its normal operation,

E. If the appliance has been dropped or damaged in any way, and

F. When the appliance exhibits a distinct Change in performance -
this indicates a need for service.

Enjoying the Sound Effects

Choosing Theater-Dimensional Mode

Theater-Dimensional mode is the technology which controls the characteristics of the sounds reaching the listener's left and right
ears, therefore, there is a sweet spot where you can best experience the Theater-Dimensional effects. You need to adjust the
location of the sweet spot and these other factors for the best possible Theater-Dimensional effect.

The listening angle is the angle at the listening position where the two lines from the left and
right speakers meet.

You need to adjust the listening angle in the following cases:
- If you set Speaker 20h or Speaker Sch in Speaker Setup on page 19.
Consider the listening angle as being formed from the left and right m speakers since the
virtual surround signals are output from the front speakers.
- If you cannot place the surround speakers in the correct position.
- Place each surround speaker on top of or on the outer side of each front speaker of the
same side.
- Consider the listening angle as being formed from the left and right surround speakers since
the virtual surround signals are output from the surround speakers.

Set Lisng. Angle to one of the following settings, which you feel is most effective (the listening
angles in parentheses are the ideal degrees):

- Normal (30)
- Wide (40°)
- Narrow (20°)

Theater-Dimensional controls the direct sounds from the speakers not the sounds reflected
from the walls. Therefore, if the distances between the speakers and the walls are too short
such as when the speaker system is placed in the corner of the room, and because of it. the
reflected sounds reach the listener's ears too soon, the reflected sounds interfere with the
virtual surround sounds.

In such a case, set Corner to On," then the
CORNER indicator lights up in the display. m
This may enhance the sound depending on the
situation.

(The factory setting is Off, which is the normal mode.)

Note
If the virtual surround sound is not enhanced with the corner mode, change the speaker positioning or
cover the walls with acoustic materials.

The listener should be on the center line between the left and right speakers. But if the situation
does not allow you to sit in such an ideal position. you can adjust the balance.

Set Balance to one of the following 11 values, which you feel is most effective:
R+5, R+4, R+3, R+2, R+1, O, L+1, L+2, L+3, L+4, and L+5.

The following tips may help you select the value:

. If the listener sits on the center line, then the factory setting 0 should be set as the balance, and

- If the listener sits on the right side of the center line towards the front speakers, select L+.
If the listener sits on the left side, select R+. A larger value should be selected as the
listening position becomes farther from the center line.

Notes

- The effect obtained with the balance adjustment may become less effective compared to the effect you
obtain when you are actually on the center line.

- If the listening position is too far from the center line, the balance adjustment may not be able to correct
the balance completely.

The dialog in the film may sound less clear because of the music or other sounds depending on
the movie or scene.

In such a case, set Dialog to Enhance. (The factory setting is Normal" which is the normal
mode.)

Notes

- This function emphasizes the dialog in the center channel since the dialog sound, in most films, is
allocated to the center channel. Therefore, if the dialog is not in the center channel, the sound will not be
enhanced.

- Depending on the type of source, this mode is not very effective.
