The MOON SuperNova CD Player employs Simaudios tried and proven fully balanced differential design approach from the digital circuitry all the way through to the output stage. Borrowing technologies from our flagship MOON Andromeda CD Player, the SuperNova uses a highly advanced digital engine that raises the bar on the CD Red Book digital standard, producing an astonishing level of sonic performance with no equal in its price range. The genuine open architecture design ensures that it will be the focal point of your home entertainment system for many years. Pushing the envelope even further, the SuperNova accepts external control, allowing for full integration in custom-install environments. A large and easily legible display combined with genuinely unique styling and a plethora of selectable cosmetic options available at the time of purchase, makes the MOON SuperNova that rare breed of component that comes along once in a blue moon. We have been designing and manufacturing integrated amplifiers for nearly 30 years and the MOON i-7 is our mangum opus, representing the culmination of our quest to offer the finest integrated ever. A fully-balanced dual-mono design, this Integrated Amplifier produces an extremely stable 150 watts per channel into 8 ohms (250 watts into 4 ohms) with absolutely no sonic colorations. A genuine non-compromising solution for those who dont require separate component systems, the end result is an an ultra-high current amplifier circuit capable of driving any known speaker load. Using technologies found in our flagship MOON P-8 Preamplifier and MOON W-8 Power Amplifier, the MOON i-7 offers superb sonic performance, incredible ease-of-use and extreme flexibility. Beginning with a three toroidal transformer power supply, our advanced setup configuration software and facilities for external control in a custom install environment, no stone was left unturned in developing this colossal integrated amplifier. Add to this a variety of selectable cosmetic options at the time of purchase, and the end result is a highly advanced integrated amplifier that embodies advanced features, tremendous performance and a stunning appearance. Simaudio Ltd. has been designing and manufacturing innovative, leading-edge audio and video products since 1980. MOON products have been globally recognized for their world-class performance, garnering numerous accolades for this outstanding achievement. Our products are engineered and built in Canada, utilizing advanced, efficient, "green" assembly techniques with strict qual- ity control. Furthermore, our manufacturing processes are part of our philosophy, whereas the high quality and long-life of MOON products are the best way to preserve our environment, avoiding premature obsolesence. MOON products meet or exceed all international requirements for safety, performance and durability. At Simaudio, great music matters. However, great music for a lifetime matters most. SuperNova Significant Design Features i-7 Significant Design Features In-house developed control software for CD transport mechanism. Separate digital and analog power supplies using two independant toroidal transformers. Power supply voltage regulation includes i 2DCf (Independant Inductive DC Filtering) - 20 stages in all. Full unsolicited RS-232 bidirectional feedback, IR input for external control (all discrete codes) and SimLink controller port allows for 2-way communications between other MOON Evolution Series components. A proprietary 6db/octave analog filter. Four-layer circuit board tracings with dedicated ground and power planes. The advantages include better ground and power supply circuit layouts resulting in a much shorter signal path and a vastly improved signal-to-noise ratio. - Digital input for use as a digital-to-analog converter with either a digital music server or external transport.Ultra high-perfomance 24-bit BurrBrown digital-to-analog converter and digital filter with internal upsampling using 24-bit/352.8kHz processing. A very precise 25PPM digital clocking circuit. Four-layer PCB tracings with dedicated ground and power planes. The advantages include better ground and power supply circuit layouts resulting in a much shorter signal path and a vastly improved signal- to-noise ratio. Precision matched and fully decoupled Bipolar output devices which offer superb linearity throughout the entire audio frequency spectrum (6 per channel). Ultra rigid chassis construction to minimize the effects of external vibrations. - M-eVOL volume control circuit based on a resistive array configuration with no sonic degradation of the audio signal regardless of the selected volume setting; 130 individual volume steps in 1dB and 0.5dB increments. - Lynx circuitry which is a "zero global feedback" design resulting in real-time amplification, a more accurate musical reproduction with respect to tonality, virtually non-existent intermodulation distortion and the elimination of common phase errors resulting from feedback. - M-Lock circuit for user selectable maximum volume setting lock-out for each line input. - Individual gain offset for each individual line input with a ±10dB range. - Each line input is fully configurable to be home-theater ready, where the gain section of the i-7 is bypassed. Technical information A high quality potentiometer-based volume circuit will typically have a variance of as much as 1.5dB (red)between the left and right channels at the volume extremeties as shown above. Our M-eVOL volume circuit maintains an extremely low and consistent variance across the entire volume range of less that 0.05dB (blue); Signal matching between channels is significantly more accurate over the entire volume range as compared to a potentiometer type volume. Perfect level matching between channels that no other volume control can achieve ... Recorded music heard as it was intended to be - pure, natural and uncolored. This M-eVOL volume circuit is based on a resistive array configuration and employs a pair (for balanced circuitry) of highly-regarded BurrBrown PGA2310 vol- ume control circuits which yield a very low inter-channel crosstalk in the MOON i-7 . As well, This circuit yields absolutely no measureable sonic degradation of the audio signal regardless of the chosen volume setting. All volume control circuits suffer from imperfect level matching between the left and right channels, especially at low and high output levels. In simple terms this means that the actual volume level is not identical for both channels at various settings: The frequency response curve in top figure is virtually flat throughout, and beyond, the entire audible range as a result of the DC-Coupled circuit employed on our MOON amplifiers. Conversely, the frequency response curve of a traditional AC-Coupled amplifier design is far from perfect, as seen in the bottom figure; both low and high frequencies in the audible range are noticeably diminished. Deeper, more accurate and articulate bass ... You will clearly distinguish betweena double-bass and an electric bass in a heart-beat. Without the blocking capacitors at the amplifiers input, sound quality is improved as the phase-shift caused by these capacitors is eliminated. Frequency response in the bass region approaches 0Hz. As well, by removing all capacitors from the direct audio signal path, ultimate soundstage focus is attained with less smear or blur. Full unsolicited RS-232 bidirectional feedback, IR input for external control (all discrete codes), 12 Volt trigger for remote operations SimLink controller port allows for 2-way communications between other MOON Evolution series components. A massive dual-mono power supply using a custom, oversized proprietary toroidal transformer design with lower magnetic, electrical and thermal loss. This yields an improved power transfer and lower regulation factor, resulting in increased current speed and better dynamics.
