The MOON CD 5.3 Player is the perfect companion source component for either the MOON i 5.3 Integrated Amplifier or any MOON series preamplifier/amplifier combination. Improving on technologies from the legendary MOON Eclipse and borrowing from the Evolution series SuperNova, the CD 5.3 incorporates advanced digital and analog circuitry. Raising the bar on the CD Red Book digital standard and producing an astonishing level of sonic realism with no equal in its price range, the MOON CD 5.3 will lead you to effortlessly rediscover your entire digital music collection. With features such as a large and easily legible display, an IR input for external control and a luxurious industrial grade build quality, the MOON CD 5.3 will provide for many years of listening pleasure and unprecedented reliability. A legend is reborn -¦ The MOON i 5.3 Integ rated Amplifier continues where the legendary MOON i-5 Limited Edition left off. More power and greater transparency are just the beginning; Producing a maximum continuous power output of 85 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 130 watts into 4 ohms, the MOON i 5.3 is housed in our highly regarded ultra-rigid chassis. Featuring five line-level inputs, a user- configurable home-theater ready input, an IR input for the flexibility of external control and military-specification internal components, this integrated amplifier offers a level of sonic performance found in some of the very finest separate amplifier/ preamplifier combinations. A home entertainment system built around the MOON i 5.3 provides for a unique opportunity to own a significant piece of audio history. Highly-accliamed performance, genuine ease-of-use and an elegant physical appearance all wrapped into one very robust package. Simaudio Ltd. has been designing and manufacturing innovative, leading-edge audio and video products since 1980. MOON products have been globally recognized for their world-class performance, garnering numerous accolades for this outstanding achievement. Our products are engineered and built in Canada, utilizing advanced, efficient, "green" assembly techniques with strict quality control. Furthermore, our manufacturing processes are part of our philosophy, whereas the high quality and long-life of MOON products are the best way to preserve our environment, avoiding premature obsolesence. MOON products meet or exceed all international requirements for safety, performance and durability. At Simaudio, great music matters. However, great music for a lifetime matters most. CD 5.3 Significant Design Features i 5.3 Significant Design Features Separate digital and analog power supplies using two toroidal power transformers with eight stages of DC voltage regulation Accurate 50PPM digital clocking system In-house developed control software for CD transport mechanismIR input for external control BurrBrown high-resolution 24-bit/192-kHz Digital-to-Analog Converter and 8X oversampling digital filter with internal upsampling using 24 bit/352.8kHz processing Advanced analog signal path using a DC servo circuit and proprietary 6dB/octave analog filter IR input for external control - One single-ended audio input which bypasses the gain control stage to accomodate a component, such as home-theatre processor, whose own volume control is used instead - Amplifier section using a "zero global feedback" design resulting in real-time amplification, more accurate musical reproduction with respect to tonality, virtually non-existent IMD (intermodulation distortion) and the elimination of common phase errors resulting from feedback. Technical information Power amplifiers employing feedback have additional circuitry (feedback loop in red) which takes a sample of the audio signal from the amplifier's output stage, applying it as negative feedback to the gain stage of the amplifier as shown above. The sole purpose being to reduce the amount of Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) the more feedback used, the greater the reduction in the amount of measurable distortion. Better transparency ... The realistic separation and space between instruments in complex musical passages results in the recovery of the faintest of musical notes. Introduced in 1998 with the MOON W-5 power amplifier, this circuit topology features a no overall feedback design , also known as "Zero Global Feedback". By eliminating the need for signal correction, amplifier speed is greatly increased. Simaudio amplification designs allows for superb performance into difficult loads, which further improves sound quality. As well, the speaker cannot send back its counter-reaction to the amplifier after a musical impulse which typically leads to a reduction in clarity of the music, a lack of tonal accuracy and the feeling of the live performance being lost. Precision matched Bipolar output devices which offer both high-current and superb linearity throughout the entire audio frequency spectrum Gain section functions as a "shunt to ground" that doesn't degrade sonic performance regardless of the volume setting. A custom proprietary toroidal transformer design with lower magnetic, electrical and thermal loss, yielding an improved power transfer and lower regulation factor, resulting in increased current speed and better dynamics i 5.3 Specifications Configuration Single-ended / Partial Dual-mono Power Supply Transformer 0.5kVA custom proprietary toroidal transformer Power Supply Capacitance40,000µF Class of Operation - Premplifier A Class of Operation - AmplifierA/AB Single-ended Inputs 5 RCA pairs Input Device TypeJ-FETs Input Sensitivity300mV -“ 3.0V RMS Input Impedance14,000 ohms Line Outputs (Tape / Preamplifier)1 Fixed pair and 1 Variable pair Out Put Binding Post5-way / Gold-plated / Shielded Output Power @ 8 ohms 85 watts @ 4 ohms130 watts Damping Factor (static) > 200 Gain30dB Signal-to-noise Ratio97dB (20Hz-20kHz) Max.
