DO NOTinstall near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatu s (including amp lifiers) that produce heat. 9. DO NOT defeat the safety purpose of the polariz ed or grounding type plug.A polariz ed plug has two blades with one wider than the other.A grounding type plug has two blades and a third grounding prong.The wider blade or the third prong are provid ed for your safety .If the provid ed plug does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician for replacemen t of the obsolete outlet. 10. PRO TECT the power cord from being walked on or pinched,particularly at plugs,convenience recep tacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatu s. 11. ONLY USE attach men ts/accessories specified by the man ufactu rer. 12. USE only with a cart,stan d,tripod,bracket ,or table specified by the man ufacturer,or sold with the apparatu s.When a cart is used,use caution when movin g the cart/apparatus comb ination to avoid injury from tip-over . 13. Caution:Changes or mod ification s not expressl y approved by the man ufactu rer could void the users authority to operate this device Your new Klipsch arch itectu ral speakers have been desig ned to deliver great sound while remain - ing unobtrusive wherever you install them. For optimu m performan ce,use the KHW-5 mod el as fron t,center or surrou nd channels in audio or home theater applications,or as part of a distrib - uted sound system. Use the KHC-6 mod el for distrib uted sound in kitch ens,hallways or bath rooms. They are also suitable for use as surrou nd channels. K H W-5 SPEAKER PLACEMENT Desig ned to function in any stan dard wall, ceilin g or drop ceilin g,Klipsch in-wall speakers are engineered for years of performan ce.Minimum constru ction requiremen ts call for drywall or other mou nting surfaces to be at least 3/8" thick. When planning speaker placemen t,maximu m performan ce is realiz ed when speakers are placed at equal distan ce from the listen er and alon g a common wall. This helps ensure the best stereo effect. For non-critical listen ing environ men ts (or when the listen ing position may vary widely) speaker placem ent may be wherever is most convenient,although in these cases stereo imaging may be lost. If this option is used,Klipsch recom mends using the "mono" settin g on the system s preamp lifier . K H W-5 SPEAKER INSTA L L AT I O N Con tents Descrip tion Quantity Speaker Modules 2 Frames 2 Grilles 2 Screws (#6 x 11/2) 4 (KHW -5) Tools Req uired #2 Phillips Screwd river Hole Saw New Con stru ction 1.Insert the frame into the wall opening and attach via the swin ging "dog" connectors integral with the frame. 2.At this point,you may paint the wall and frame together.You may also wan t to paint the speaker grilles. Klipsch in-wall frames and grilles are desig ned to accep t most types of paint. Care should be taken to avoid excessive paint build-up in the grille perfora tions. 3.Install the mod ule with the screws provid ed and press the grille in place. Existin g Con stru ction 1. Cut the appropriate size opening in the wall using the temp late provid ed.Cutout dimen sion s are provid ed in the "Specification " section at the back of this man ual.Sizes are minimum.If accu racy of cut (straig htness/sq uaren ess) cannot be achieved ,you may add 1/4" to each dimen sion .Be carefu l not to cut through any existin g wirin g or plumbing.Avoid comp romisin g any fire stop s between studs.
