Introduc tion

Before applying power

Units are dsigned for operation as follows.
U.5.A. and Canada .. A C 120V only
Australia ..................... A C 240 V only


For the United Kingdom

Factory fitted moulded mains plug

1. The mains plug contains afuse. Forreplacement, use
only a 3-Amp ASTA-approved (BS 1362) fuse.

2. The fuse cover must be refitted when replacing the
fuse in the moulded plug.

3. Do not cut off the mains plug from this equipment. If
the plug fitted is not suitable for the power points in
your home or the cable is too short to reach.

A power point, then obtain an appropriate safety
approved extension lead or adapter, or consult your
dealer. lf nonetheless the mains plug is cut off,
remove the fuse and dispose of the plug immediately,
to avoid a possible shock hazard by inadvertent.
Connection to the mains supply.

IM PORTANT :
The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance
with the following code:

Blue : Neutral

Brown : Live
Do not connect those leads to the earth terminal of a
three-pin plug.

The marking of products using lasers

The marking is located on the rear panel and says that
the component uses laser beams that have been clas-
sified as Class 1. It means that the unit is utilizing laser

beams that are of a weaker class. There is no danger of
hazardous radiation outside the unit.

96ld-lz =>48kHz : Even in case of 96 kHz digital signal, (Linear PCM display appears.)
DVD will deliver 48 ld-lz signal out.

96ld-Iz =>96kHz : In case of 96 kHz digital signal, DVD
will deliver 96 kHz signal out. In this
case your receiver should control 96
kHz signal.

0 Press Cursor up/ down (AI V) keys

Menu playback
-Hierarchical structure of VCD menus

When an item is selected on the menu screen during playbackofa P.B.C.-compafibleVCD, another menu with more
details items may be displayed. When a numbaof menus are connected in multiple layers in this way, it is said that
the menus have a hierarchical stnrcture. In this structure, the daired scene can be reached by repeating item
selections on the menu screens.

Operation to reset

The microprocessor may fall into malfunction (impossibility to
operate erroneous display, etc.) when the power cord is unplugged
while power is ON ordue to an external factor. In this case, execute
the following procedure to reset the microprocessor and return it to

The picture dos not look good or the pic-
ture/ sound quality is poor.

0A nearby device is generating noise.
oThe disc is dirty.

oThe disc is damaged.
oThere is condensation on the optical lens.

0 Separate this unit as far as possible from the
device you think is generating the noise.

0 Referto the Disc handling precautions" sec-
tion and wipe dirt from the disc.

oUse a new disc.

0 Refer to the Beware of condensation" sec-
tion and evaporate the condensation.

lt taks a while forthe disc to start playing.

oTime is required for the unit to detect the disc
type and size and forthe rotation ofthe motorto
stabilize. This is not a malfunction.

oApproximately 10 to 20 seconds are required
for a disc to start playing, although the time
differs depending on the disc.

The tray opens automatically.

oThe disc is not placed horizontally.

u Properly place the disc on the tray.

Thetop and bottom ofthe screen cannot be
seen.

oThe video format of the disc being played does
not match that of the connected TV monitor.

a Referto the "Video formats" section ,and use
a disc with the appropriate video format for
your TV or a TV with the appropriate video
format for the disc.

The subtitle is not displayed.

oThe DVD disc being played does not contain the
recording of subtitles.

oThe subtitle mode is set to off.

oThe subtitle cannot be displayed when the
DVD disc being played does not contain the
recording of subtitles.

o Press the SUB 11TLE-0N/ OFF key to switch
on the subtitle mode.

111e voice (or subtitle) language cannot be
changed.

oThe DVD disc being played does not contain the
recording of more than one audio (or subtitle)
language.

oThe voice (or subtitle) language cannot be
changed when the DVD disc being played
does not contain the recording of more than
one voice (or subtitle) language.

The viewing angle cannot be changed.

oThe DVD disc being played does not contain the
recording of more than one angle.

oYou are attempting to switch the angle in a DVD
section where more than one angle is not re-
corded.

oThe viewing angle cannot be changed when
the DVD disc being played does not contain
the recording of more than one angle.

0 More than one viewing angle may be re-
corded only in limited sections in a disc.
