JARE 2 EN TYPES 2-4123 and Z-4thp

A

Over the years, all levels of audio enthusiasts have come to recognize that for the
ultimate in sound reproduction, they must utilize speaker systems incorporating
electrostatic elements . With your choice of this Ianszen Electrostatic speaker system ,
you most certainly have reached that level of sophistication.

SPEAKER PIAC EM EN'I.

Ianszen Electrostatic speakers should be placed against a wall opposite the primary
listening area, preferably near ear level. The speaker may be placed directly on the
floor in its verticle position. However, some boominess may occur because of bass
coupling to the floor. This can be corrected by lifting the speakers slightly from the
floor on an appropriate stand or shelf. If the speakers are placed near the ceiling, they
should be turned upside down so that the woofer is closest to the ceiling and the
electrostatic array is farthest.

AMPLIFIER CONNECTIONS
NORMAL OPERATION (Types 2-4123 and Z-412hp)

To connect your Janszen Ele ctrostatlc speakers to your stereo amplifier. run one pair

of wires (no smaller than 18 gauge AWG for 2-4123 and 16 gauge AWG for Z-412hp) to
each speaker. To insure that the speakers are in phase, use color coded wire or heavy
gauge lamp cord with a color tracer or ridge on one of the leads . When connecting the
wires to the binding posts on the speakers and stereo amplifier, make sure that the same
color wire or tracer is always on the same terminal (plus or minus and/or red (+) or

black (-) and that both channels are connected in the same manner.

BI~AMPLIFICATION OPERATION (Type Z-412hp ONLY)

To utilize the type Z-412hp in its bi-amplification mode, disconnect the wire strap
between the two red binding posts and connect the bottom two binding posts to the
amplifier designated for tie woofer and the top two binding posts to the amplifier
designated for the electrostatic array. Make sure that proper phasing is observed (see
paragraph above) not only between speakers in a stereo pair but between the woofer and
electrostatic array of each speaker itself.

If a stereo amplifier is utilized for the bi-amplification of each Z-412hp and is the

rare type that requires separate and isolated grounds between channels, remove the die-
cast backplate from the cabinet and on the inside remove the wire strap between the two
black binding posts. If the bi-amplification mode is changed back to normal operation
in the future. this strap must be re-installed.

AC ELECTRICAL CONNECTION

Plug the AC line cords into a permanently live AC wall outlet of any voltage from 100
Volts to 240 Volts AC. 50-60 Hz. The power supply will automatically control the
voltage so that the types Z-412a and Z-412hp can be used anywhere in the world. The
AC line cords should be left plugged in at all times since the amount of current
consumption would amount to just pennies a year.

ELECTROSTATIC LEVEL CONTROL

The high frequency level control utilized on Ianszen Electrostatic speakers is vastly
superior to the two or three position switch, found on most speakers . It enables far
more precise high frequency level adjustment over a much wider range.

The types 241% and Z-412hp are shipped from the factory with the front panel
electrostatic level control set to an arbitrary mid position. This position is not a
"normal setting " and is just done as a starting point. The electrostatic control
MUST be adjusted so that the electrostatic array just starts to "blossom" in relation
to the woofer in its acoustic environment. The best way to do this is by setting the
control in its full counter-clockwise psoition and then advancing it"upwards until

the proper balance is achieved. There is no lag time in the control on the Z-412a and
2-412hp as there is on the less expensive Ianszen models so this adjustment should
be very simple to arrive at.

This now completes the placement, hookup, phasing and connecting of your new
Janszen Electrostatic speaker. We are sure that you will be quite pleased with its
performance and operation. If you have any questions or require additional information,
