The concept of our servo-bass system is an easy one
to understand. It employs an accelerometer as a
sensor to constantly monitor the movement of the
woofer cone and continuously compares it to the
input signal. This comparison circuit identifies any
deviation from the input signal and applies a
corrective signal to compensate; resulting in the
virtual elimination of the inherent distortion of the
woofer.

ln the Genesis products with an external amplifier7
the servo-bass amplifier is driven by line»level input
from the preamplifier. This means that while the
midrange and tweeters of the speaker is driven by
the power amplifier in use. the servo-bass amplifier
is driven by the preamplifier.

This scheme of connection, while it works, may not
be ideal. The power amplifier is never a straight
wire with gain7 and will affect the musical signal in
an unpredictable way. The servo-system will correctly
produce the bass part of the musical signal that is
the input of the power amplifier. instead of the
actual output to the speaker.

Most7 if not all, power amplifiers will have capacitors
and/or output transformers in the signal path. A
capacitor or transformer will shift the phase of the
music signal. Hence7 the input and output of the
power amplifier will not be in absolute phase. While
this can be compensated for by the phase adjustment
on the servo»bass amplifier7 the compensation
cannot be perfect.

You hear this as a loss of coherency between the
bass and the midrange. Sometimes. users call it a
loss of speed" or slow bass". In cases where the
power amplifier is phase-inverting (like some tube
amps), the bass can be up to 180 degrees or more
out of phase.

And, if you have an integrated amplifier. the bass
amp cannot be hooked up. While you would not use
a cheap integrated amplifier with our high»end

speaker systems. lately there have been some very
good high-end integrated amplifiers being sold.

The Genesis Servo-bass Jumper Cable is designed to
address all of these issues , it allows the balanced
line-level input of the Genesis external servo-bass
amplifier to be driven by the high»level output of
your power amp , hence using the same signal that
is driving the rest of the loudspeaker for an
exceptional increase in transparency and bass
coherence.
