dymca A-40 x1. LOUDSPEAKER SYSTEM

Your dated bill of sale should be retained far warranty verification.

DESCRIPTION -

The A-4OXL is an extended range, high performance two way loudSpeaker
system. A 1" non-rigid dome tweeter with ultra-wide dispersion is crossed
over at 1500 Hz to an extended excursion woofer in a walnut veneer cabinet
design which achieves non-resonant bass response. This aperiodic achieve-
ment provides an unusually uniform bass impedance characteristic. It en-
ables higher power transfer with low distortion at low frequencies and
provides crisp articulation or transient response in the bass. The result
is higher output before the amplifier "clips or distorts than with other
speakers of similar efficiency. The A-40XL is recommended for amplifiers
having continuous ratings of 15 watts or greater per channel. It carries
a 50 watt DIN power rating specification.

INSTALLATION

In most stereo music systems, the speakers are usually placed 6 to 15
feet apart against the wall opposite the listening area. The most natural
audio image is often realized when the speakers are at set level or above.
.hose preferring accentuated bass response will choose a corner location.

Commonly used speaker connecting wire is #18 stranded two conductor
lamp cord {zip cord}. Do not use wire smaller than #18 with any quality
speaker system. If the speaker wires exceed 50 feet, it is recommended
that #16 lamp cord be used. Stranded wire should be tightly twisted before
connecting it to the terminal (tin" it with solder. if possible) to prevent
stray ends from touching other than the intended terminal. The connecting
terminals will also accept 3/4" spacing dual banana plugs.

The A-40XL is connected to the 8 ohm" and "common" amplifier terminals.
Be sure to maintain similar wiring sense" for each speaker in the system
so that all are connected in phase. With lamp cord. phasing is easily
maintained because one conductor is coded with a slight molded ridge on the
outer plastic insulation. Two Speakers are connected in phase when max-
imum low frequency output is heard when they are placed face to face about
l"-2" apart and the speakers are driven from a monophonic source. Lowered
bass output is observed when the connection to one of the speakers is rever-
sed, or out of phase. In a matrix or discrete quadraphonic system, each
Speaker should be compared with the original one if there is any doubt of
the phasing of each.

The most used setting of the high frequency level control has been in-
dicated as NORMAL. Clockwise rotation increases the treble output by 3 dB
at 10 kHz, and counterclockwise rotation decreases the treble bY 3 dB-

INSPECT FOR CONCEALED DAMAGE
These speakers were carefully tested, and the cabinets inspected prior to
their leaving the factory. If the sealed carton was picked up from a dealer
notify him at once and retain all the packing for inspection. If a trans-
portation company delivered the carton to you, notify them that you wish to
place a claim. They will need a copy of your bill of sale. Damage to the
contents of a sealed carton is the responsibility of the tranSportation
company, even though the exterior carton appears intact, and damage claims
must be filed promptly by zg_. Damage to the wood cabinet requires its
replacement at Dynaoo, unless you choose to ignore it. The replacement cost
of an A-4OXL cabinet is $40.00 plus shipping to and from the factory. If
there is functional damage as well, you cannot yet quote a repair charge
to the transportation company. The speaker should be properly repacked
and shipped to Dynaco prepaid and insured via United Parcel Service or
Express. It will be returned collect for repair charges and shipping.
The invoice you receive may then be used to substantiate your claim against
the transportation company. NEVER SHIP VIA PARCEL POST!

Two A- -4OXL speakers may be connected in parallel to the output of each
channel of an amplifier without concern, for the speaker' s impedance curve
is very uniform, and remains above 8 ohms over most of its range. If a
4 ohm tap is available from a transformer or tube amplifier, this should be
used for two speakers connected in parallel.

j If you wish to hang a speaker on the wall,
two metal brackets plus four Phillips head screws
are provided for either vertical or horizontal
mounting. Once the brackets have been mounted in
the appropriate corners on the back of the cabinet
(see the pictorial diagram on the right), affix
#6 round head screws to the wall. The #6 screws
(not supplied) should project about 1/8" from the
wall. Self-adhesive felt feet have been supplied
to protect the wall surface, or of supporting
furniture.

PRESERVING THE HOOD FINISH

The furniture surface of the A-4OXL is an oil finish. It should not be
waxed or polished with any preparation containing wax or petroleum distil-
lates. You can enhance the patina of the wood by applying a thin coat of
boiled (not raw) linseed oil, or an oil prepared for such finishes. Boiled
linseed oil is avaiable at hardware stores, but it will take 2 to 4 days to
dry completely. Special finishes. usually sold only by stores handling
matte or oil finish furniture, often include turpentine and Japan drier
with the boiled linseed oil to speed drying.

Apply a very thin coat with a clean, lintless cloth, such as cheese
cloth. A teaspoon should easily oil one cabinet. Apply with the grain,
allow it to soak in and dry for an hour, and then wipe off the excess. Do
not allow anything to touch the cabinet for 2 to 4 days. You may wish to
repeat the process every 6 months to a year.

PROfECTIVE FUSING

To guard against speaker abuse from excessive input signals, a fuse
installed in series with one speaker lead is advised. Use a conventional
3AG/AGC type in an open clip-type fuse holder screwed to the back of the
speaker. A 1-1/4 or 1-1/2 ampere fuse {not slo-blo) is recommended.

LIMITED WARRANTY

The Dynaco A-4OXL is warranted against defects in material and work-
manship for one [1) year from purchase date, provided it has not been
subjected to abuse, misuse, or accident. The warranty includes factOry
authorized repairs and return freight within U.S. from the factory or near~
est authorized agency to the purchaser. If the speaker is defective upon
initial use, contact the dealer from whom it was purchased. If a defect
appears within the warranty period, write to Dynaco with the symptoms, any
tests you have made, the serial number, purchase date, and your name and
complete shipping address. We will direct you to the nearest repair facil-

_f agar dated bill of sale is reguired. Please do not return the speaker to
the factory without prior authorizat1on unless cabinet replacement is re-
quired. we recommend that you keep the complete original packing. If
necessary, new packing is available on request for $3.50 post paid. Please
include your check or money order when ordering.

The drivers (woofer and tweeter} are warranted against manufacturing
defects for a full five (5} years from purchase date (determined by a copy
