Durch unsere iahrelange Zusommenorbeit mit Decca
Special Products lernten wir mehr und mehr die Vor- und
Nachteile dieser einmaligen Tonabnehmer mit ,positiver
Abtastung zu schfitzen. Der grc'iBte Vorteil liegt vor allem
in der enormen Ollenheit und Présenz des Klongbildes,
dos nur mit dem von Mutterbéndern zu vergleichen ist. Der
Nachteil liegt - wie bei alien handgelertigten Produlrten -
trotz der ihm eigenen Uberlegenheit - in den Variablen
einer solchen Produlrtion und dem damit verbundenen
Kompromifi hinsichtlich Fertigungstoleranzen und Materia-
lien. Do wir nun im tdglichen Umgang mit Anlagen hochster
Qualitat zu der Uberzeugung iramen, daB Konsequenz
aul ganzer linie die einzige Antwort aul unser professio-
nelles Bestreben ist, sind wir gliicklich, lhnen mitteilen zu
konnen, daB eine Special-Sane bei Decca Special Products
eingerichtet wurde, die wir Ober unsere Organisation ver-
treiben. Diese Systeme zeichnen sich durch strengste Quali-
tatskantrollen im Arbeitsgong und bei den verwondten
Teilen aus. So lronnten wir dos ellektive Aullagegewicht
liir die konische Version oul 1,5 bis 2 pond und dos liir eine
h elliptische Special Version col 1 bis 1,5 pond vern'ngern.

Through our many years ol cooperation with Decca Special
Products, we have become more and more aware ol the
delinite advantages ol the 'Positive Scanning Cartridge'.
The greatest of these advantages is the extreme clarity and
liveness ol the sound of such a cartridge, which can only
be compared to that ol master tapes. Previously a dis-
advantage - as with all hand made products - was the
variability of some tolerances. Living with high quality com-
ponents is our 'daily bread' and we realize that going all
the way is the only answer to our professional standards.
It is also the only way acceptable to us. Therefore, we are
extremely happy to announce that we have arranged a
special series with Decca Special Products to be distributed
through our organization. These cartridges are marked by
extremely high quality and unit to unit repeatability. Addi-
tionally, they boast a lower tracking force at l W to 2 gr. for
the conical version and l to l 'I) gr. lor the new, elliptical
version.

Bei Mognelsystemen mil indurierendem Fold gemaB Frei-
triigerprinzip, wird das Signal an einem Ende des lreitra-
genden Nodeltrogers durch die Nodel abgelastet, und
erst nach Erreid'ten des anderen Endes interpretierl, wobei
es verhdltnismafiig eintach ist, die Suchspulen weit inner-
halb des Tanabnehmers abwsd'ilrnnn. Do der Nadel-
tréger in einer Gummihaltemng gelagert ist, die auBerdem
die Systemddmphrng bildel, ist aber inzwischen erlrannt
warden, daB hier gewisse Verluste in der lnterpretierung
dos Signals enlstehen kénnen. Man spricht vom .Freitriiger-
schleier". Solche Veduste wurden mnéchsl im Algerneinen
nur van Perteldionisten und Besitmem hochwertiger Ania-
gen wahrgenammen. Mil zunehmendem lnteresse an
Qralilotsverslorliern und -Lautsprechern hat sich iedoch
die Anzahl der Leute, die dos Problem erlnannt haben,
erheblid't vergrorBert; daher der schwundialte Trend in
letzter Zeil zu Systemen mil ,lcsiliver Ablaslung'.
Gleichmeitig mit der Kenntnis der mil ,positiver Ablastung'
erreichbaren Qualitolserhohung wurde es dem Ver-
braucher immer lilorer, doB er damll entweder ein gewisses
Brunsmen in Kant nehmen odor aber einen der wenigen
Plattenspieler lsaulen mfiflte, der kein Guberlkhes magneti
sches Fold erzeugl.

Dar grafle Durchbrudt lsam mit der Entfrhrung eines neuen
magnetischen Materials durch die Fa. Mullard. Diese neuen
Mogneten sind ouflerst Hein, aber ouch fiuflerst stark, und
sie haben viola Nebenvorteile. Mit dem engen magneti-
schen Kreis, den wir entwidoeln lsonnten, haben wir nicht nur
eine wesentliche Reduzierung dos Brummens erreichl,
sondern ouch die Masse des Tonabnehmers out weni-
ger als 4 g verringert, wohrend die Brummplage nunmehr

AEC Unique Pick-Up Design

With the cantilever principle inherent in the moving magnet
design (where the signals is read at one end of the cantilever
by the stylus), it is relatively easy to screen the search coils of
the pick-up well within the cartridge, since the signal is not
interpreted until it reaches the other end at the cantilever.
As the cantilever is hinged in a rubber mounting which also
forms the damping in the system, it is now recognised that
some losses can occur in the interpretation. This loss is
sometimes known as 'cantilever hau'.

Originally, these losses were at first only noticed by purists
and those with the finest equipment. However, with the
increasing ownership of high quality ampitiers and spea-
kers, the numbers who are aware of the problem have
inaeased enomiously; hence the recent swing towards
'Positive Sconnlng'.

With this appreciation at the improved quality that could

be obtained with the Posilive Sconning' system, the consu- '3
mar became more and more aware that with this improved
qualityonenwstoitenaccepleitheradegreeothumor
alternatively purchase one of a limited number of turntable
motors which do not generate an external magnetic field.
The maior breakthrough has come with the introduction at
a new magnetic material by Mulard. These new magnets
are extremely small, yet extremely powerful, and theybring
many bonuses. With the tight magnetic circuit we have
been able to design, not only have we achieved significant
reductionhlwmbulalthesametimelhemassolthe
cartridge has been reduced to less lhan 4 grams, and the
nuisance at external magnetic fields is now virtually re-
moved. A further bonus is an increase in output: the new
Croducl gives W2 mVs/cm/sec - an increase at about
