INSTALLING THE SOLID-8 INTO YOUR SYSTEM

Step 1.

Unpack the Solid-8 and save the box and the packing materials. They are essential for
shipping purposes should updating, repair or resale be desired.

Step 2.

Place the Solid-8 as near to the final installation position as possible while leaving yourself
access to its rear panel input and output connectors.

Step 3.
Check that the front panel OPERATE/MUTE switch is in the MUTE position.

Step 4.
Connect your Solid-8 to a convenient wall outlet. The indicator lamp on the front panel of the
Solid-8 will illuminate RED. If the lamp does not illuminate, there may be a problem with that
unit. But before you contact your dealer, please check that the wall receptacle actually has

power by plugging a lamp into the receptacle. If you are unable to find the problem, unplug
the power cord and contact your Counterpoint Dealer.

Step 5.

Connect your line level analog signal sources (CD player, tuner, etc.) to the labelled line
input connectors on your Solid-8s rear panel.

The Solid-8 does not have an internal phono stage. If you intend to use the Solid-8 with a
turntable, you must use an external phono preamplifer or equalizer. For your
convenience, a pair of input jacks have been marked ext ph. Like all the other inputs,
they are intended to be driven by a line-level signal only such as the output of a phono
stage. It will not work to use them directly with a phono cartridge or turntable. Your
audio dealer will be able to assist ou in settin- u- our 3 stem to use with a turntable.

Step 6.

Before connecting the Solid-8 to your power amplifier be certain that the amp is OFF, then
connect it to the MAIN OUT connectors on the Solid-8. Note that there are two sets of MAIN

OUTS. They are connected in parallel so that more than one power amplifier may be driven
by the Solid-8.

Step 7.
Double-check your connections to be certain that none of them are loose, then turn on your
power amplifier at this time.

I Set the Solid-8s GAIN control to fully counter-clockwise.
I Set the TAPE MONITOR knob to the SOURCE position.
. Select an audio source with the INPUT SELECT control.

I Set the MUTE/OPERATE switch to the OPERATE position and advance the GAIN
knob to listen to the music.
