Lifestyle AV-28 Media Center
Refer to the Lifestyle AV-28 Media Center service manual, reference number 264563-SM for
schematics, PCB layouts and parts lists located on service web site.
Preventative Repair Measures
Note: Perform the following on all units returned for repair.
Product Check Action
AV28 Media Center C839 on main pcb On all units with a date code before 2200 that come
in for repair, inspect the orientation of C839 located
on the main PCB. The negative (marked) lead of the
capacitor should face toward J102 and away from
Y700. If it doesn't, remove surface mount electrolytic
capacitor C839 and install a new part (part number
256772-331A) in the direction indicated. Refer to
service bulletin 264563-B3.
AV28 Media Center J104 on tuner pcb Check for solder fractures.
AV28 Media Center Software revision Update to latest revision
AV28 Media Center CD/DVD power cable Replace on all units. Part # 304996-265. Refer to
service bulletin 271000-B4.
AV28 Media Center DVD drive part number.
Refer to service bulletin
264563-B5.
USA units built between 6/3/02 and 9/12/02 should
be checked for the presence of DVD drive part
number 266439-001 (DOM range 2190 - 2255). If a
DVD drive part number 266439-001 is found in an
AV28 media center, the drive must be replaced.
Troubleshooting Tips
Product Symptom Check Action
AV28 Media
Center No Power Solder fracture on
J104 on tuner pcb
Repair fractured solder joint.
AV28 Media
Center No Power FB1 on tuner pcb,
refer to service
bulletin 264563-B2. If the resistance measurement is greater
than 1.00 ohm or there is any sign of
physical damage to the part, replace FB1
part number 256116-181.
AV28 Media
Center No Power Check for 12V, 5V
and 3.3V at switching
power supply ICs
U302 (tuner pcb),
U802 and U803
(main pcb). Check the power supply for the 12V, 5V, and
3.3V at switching power supply IC's U802,
U803 and U302 pins 2 and 3. If any of the
voltages are not present first check to see
that the input voltage 33VDC is present at
pins 8 and 9. If the input voltage is there
replace the corresponding IC with part #
193486-001.
AV28 Media
Center No Power C301 and C310 on
tuner pcb Check for solder fractures.
AV28 Media
Center Unit has power,
but will not boot
up CD/DVD drive Occasionally a software issue with the
CD/DVD drive will cause the unit not to boot
up. Attempt to power the unit on with a test
drive, replace if defective.

pcb. Part # 260354-001.
AV28 Media
Center
No dialogue
from left and
right channels
when in 5
speaker mode. Flash IC U2 on main
pcb If resetting the console and the bass module
does not correct this issue, replace flash IC
U2. Part # 307513.

Unit has power,
but will not boot
up Flash IC U2 on main
pcb, If all power supply voltages are present and
a test CD/DVD drive does not work, flash IC
U2 may be defective. Replace IC part #
307513 if defective.
AV28 Media
Center
No audio, no
remote
response Check for 10V at
U302 pin2 on tuner
pcb. If the +10V is not present U201 on main pcb
may be internally shorted to ground through
pin 3. Lift the pin to see if the 10V comes
back. If U201 is not shorted, the following
components on the main board also use the
10V supply: U204, U205, U305, U405 and
U504.
AV28 Media
Center
No Video Check for 8Vdc at
VR1 pin 4 on main
pcb If the 8V supply is missing, check for shorted
cap C627 on bottom side of main pcb.

No audio from
Zone 1. Check Zone 1
protocol setting on
display menu. If Zone 1 protocol is set to legacy, there will
be no audio from Zone 1.
AV28 Media
Center No audio from
Zone 1. R342, R341, R340
and T301 on main
pcb. Using an oscilloscope, check for a SPDIF
signal at pins 1 and 2 of din connector J301.
If the signal is not present check U306 pin
26. If the signal is coming out of U306 check
the following components for open: R342,
R341, R340 and T301.
9-Pin Din, Pin Location
To measure T301, check for continuity
between pins 1 and 4, and pins 5 and 8.
